Abstract
For companies to grow they require a path. The people who manage the company are able to give this direction. However, how this direction is headed and how it is formed, really is determined by the policies of the business, and the management / leadership styles managers form through their experiences and corporate influences.
The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight into the different possible management methods available to managers. It is also intended to offer a snapshot of the global leadership styles, and adding to it a do 's and don 'ts to managing.
Management / Leadership Styles
Different leadership …show more content…
The most obvious reason for the differences exists due to culture. Each style is also irked with its negative connotations. The American management techniques are regarded as too informal and are centered on only one aspect of the employee. On the opposing end, many Americans argue that the Eastern management style pamper employees and strips them of freedom.
I work in the international department and communicate on a daily basis with foreign managers and their employees (mainly in the sales departments). On various occasions, I have also heard complaints about Canadians and African managers letting workers have days off for family time. While in Switzerland, I had a President show a picture of their grown son during an important meeting with buyers. It so happens that the grown son was later hired as a summer intern at our company. One of our German Managers is adamant on never holding meetings an hour before lunch. And our Spanish Rep, appreciates if the majority of business takes place in the morning hours, even if this means 4 or 5 in the morning. Regardless of the country, management styles fascinate me.
Conclusion
Various management / leadership styles are proficient in managing complex situations and resolving different dilemmas. Therefore, a manager should be a productive person, who has insight into the many models of management / leadership styles.
