My Time To Learn
Everyone has a preferred method of learning. There are three different types of learning styles that most of us fall under. The three styles of learning are: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic (Bixler, 2010). New students and returning students can greatly benefit from knowing their preferred learning styles by taking a short assessments online.
I have taken a break for many years on attending college level classes due to many reasons. Many times I did not sign up for classes due to personal and professional obligations, however, other times it was for my pure laziness. As the years have gone by, I have come to realize that I need to motivate myself and finish something that I set out to do about 17 years ago. During this day and age jobs have become highly competitive and usually require more than experience alone. I feel like I have remotivated myself and feel extremely eager to learn and continue my path of learning as I will soon transition from the military life to civilian life. I have always had an interest in technology and found it natural that I would try to pursue a degree within that area.
I have taken two online learning style assessments to determine my personal learning style. According to the Learning Style Inventory (Bixler, 2010) and The Center for New Discoveries in Learning (The Center for New Discoveries in Learning, 2012) my preferred learning style is auditory. This is the first time that I can recall ever taking an assessment on my learning style as I normally would answer with my preferred method as either visual and/or kinesthetic. When I learned that based off my answers on both of these two assessments, I felt like I have to mostly disagree to the results. I normally do prefer to learn by visual presentations as well as kinesthetic. The reason I feel that I can learn from both visual and kinesthetic is very dependent on the topic or the level of interest I have in the subject matter. I have been in

Preferred learning style is a multimodal learning style which includes all of the above mentioned four learning modes. First of all, visual learning strategies include looking at pictures, postures, slides, diagrams, graphs, flow charts, and underlining and highlighting the key words during learning. After the teaching session is over, a visual learner should recall visual images used during learning and should practice turning visual images into words again to be able to write if needed for examination. Secondly, Aural learning strategies include attending classes and then discussing with others to hear from them, attending tutorials, discussing topics with educators, using a tape recorder to record lecture and then listening to it, and reading notes aloud to hear then again in order to remember material. Third, Read/write learning strategies include writing and rewriting key words and ideas, making a new list from diagrams and graphs, reading notes silently over and over, and practicing examination by writing answers. Lastly, kinesthetic learning strategies include using all the senses to learn material via demonstration. It includes experimenting in laboratories, field trips to learn new ideas, listening to lecture which includes real…

A learning style is the way in which a person processes new information. In the learning system there are three main types of learning which are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. People may learn best by being taught with the three learning methods, but others may not. Visual learners are people who learn by seeing. These people learn more where there are images, graphs, diagrams, and colors involved. Visual learners are learners that first have to see what they are expected to know. Auditory learners learn best by hearing. Lastly, there is the kinesthetic learners, also known as tactile learners, those learners learn best by the physical activity. In a class the students’ way of learning might not be the way the professor…

R, and K, for kinesthetic learning, which includes hands-on activities. After taking the VARK learning styles questionnaire, I was defined as a kinesthetic learner. Kinesthetic learners take in information best by practicing using the information. This often involves physical activity, which is why most athletes are kinesthetic learners. I feel that the learning style assessment accurately described the way that I learn best. I do not gain much from just sitting in a lecture, but from actively engaging in the course material. Therefore, it is a valid claim that I am a kinesthetic learner.…

In a recent study, I was able to determine which learning style category I fell into. Three learning style categories were discussed. Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles were presented. The first part of the assessment was to go through three different lists consisting of different habits often associated with learning and studying. I was to read through each list and check off all that applied to my personal study and learning habits. When I was done, I found that I am dominantly a Visual Learner. Some of the characteristics I possess in relation to being a Visual learner are 1) I often ask for instructions to be repeated 2) I like to use maps or note cards when I review my notes 3) The best way for me to remember something is to picture it in my head. These are some…

As mentioned above my dominant learning style is Kinesthetic of course. I plan to take this learning style to help with my online courses, by making study lessons each week. Every week when I am reading over material, I always make note cards with important key factors of what I read during that week. At the end of the week I review over all my material that I read for a refresher. I think the strengths I have with my learning style is that I retain information very easy. The information that I learn and receive will always stick and remain with me; I have great memory with the kinesthetic learning style.…
