Thomas W. Hetrick Memorial Scholarship Analysis
Thomas W. Hetrick Memorial Scholarship As my time at BHS comes to an end I have had time to reflect on my achievements and have found a new appreciation for the people in my life. Moving onto college, I will use the skills that I have learned from teachers, fellow students, friends and family. I plan on attending Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in the fall of 2016. If I were fortunate enough to win the esteemed Thomas W. Hetrick Memorial Scholarship, I would use the money to help pay my tuition to become a better rounded person and to help continue my education and better this great country. Within the past four years I have taken many different classes, from digital art to advanced statistics and each class has helped me …show more content…
Over my four year athletic career I did my best to represent my school, town, friends and family with the highlest level of sportsmanship and pride. I played a big role in winning the district title in both golf and basketball my freshman year. I individually placed second at districts three years in a row, I broke the school basketball record for most three pointers in a season, game and a career and I hold the record for most homeruns in a softball season. Outside of the athletics I have contributed to the school academically and politically as well. Being the senior class president I have many responsibilities when it comes to raising money and providing the best high school experience for my fellow classmates. Last October, my fellow class officers and I had to make a decision on where our senior trip would take place. In past years this has been a one day trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park, but I was determined to do more for my classmates so I had suggested that we present an overnight trip to the school board. There has not been a overnight trip for a senior class at BHS since 1985.. My officers were very hesitant but I knew that we could make it happen. In January two officers and I went to make history at the school board meeting. We presented our case to the board and after 3 short weeks we gained their approval. We were all so excited, we knew that we had changed the path for not only our class but for many classes to

Upon receiving my letter for invitation to apply for the National Junior Honor Society came feelings of hard work pays off, and a bit of pride. I have worked very hard to maintain an all A average at Friendswood Junior High while taking some PAP classes as well as challenging myself with Latin. Having been told in a conference with a 5th grade teacher that I was not going to be an A student and that my parents and I needed to get used to that fact, sent me on a mission to be the best student I knew that I was capable of being, regardless of what any teacher thought.…

During my junior year the biggest event I had to plan was the social event for the battalion: military ball. The event was one eagerly looked forward to, and rightfully so, as it was always a blast with the cadets and fostered many memories that will last a lifetime. I took planning this event very seriously and in the end many told me that it was the best military ball to date. Several cadets came to me after the formalities had concluded and thanked me for putting in the time and effort to make military ball happen. Seeing their gratitude and smiles on their faces made me feel appreciated and I knew that all the hours I had put in and almost wanting to tear my hair out in frustration had not gone in vain. During my senior year, another crucial event within the program changed. The criteria for our annual inspection had been altered drastically and we had to start from scratch will almost everything. This inspection is what JROTC works toward the entire school year, due to the fact that if a program receives a low score a certain amount of times, then the program can be disbanded. I, along with my staff, worked for months making sure that we had everything we needed and that our presentation was the best it could be. When the day of inspection finally came around, our hard work paid off. The battalion received a perfect score and was officially the best JROTC program in the county. This was the first time since my high school JROTC program’s conception in 2000 that we had received a perfect score on the…

My family was affected by the Louisiana Flooding, so this scholarship would be a relief to my family. That is because the flood has resulted in economic hardships which have made the prospect of attending university even harder than it would be under normal circumstances. Additional to the economic consequences of the flood, it also has simply made the process harder since the college process had to be somewhat put on the back burner while taking care of other matters. In these regards, the scholarship would have a significant impact on my ability to attend university. Obviously there is the fact that it eases the economic situations since it lowers the financial strain of attendance. That is a big deal due to the financial situation that my…

I played baseball throughout high school except for my senior year. The reason was that I was treated unfairly. During my junior year, I was told that I would play varsity and junior varsity. I put up outstanding numbers on junior varsity (batting average over .600, no field errors), but the coach refused to call me up to replace the other struggling player (batting average under .200, multiple errors), saying that it was just a slump and he would pull out of it. I was able to be on varsity for the playoffs, but couldn't take batting practice or field with the team with the coach saying that I wasn't part of the team. The player continued to struggle, but we did win the state championship (I did not receive a ring for not being a "member of…

He told me I would need to make a presentation to present to the head of school, principle, and dean of students. The day after I presented they said in order to go through with my idea, I would need to find an administrator or a teacher at the school who would be willing to be the coach of the team. Immediately, I thought to ask the baseball coach. The baseball coach told me he would be willing to coach the girl’s softball team if I showed him commitment and dedication by being the varsity baseball manager for an entire season. He was trying to prove a point that I would not be able to stick with something. I showed him differently. After a year of being the baseball manager, I proudly proved to him that I was willing and able to put one hundred percent effort into the team. I thought the hard part was over until we ran into an issue; finding players. I previously assumed that I would put up a sign up sheet for the softball team and girls would be signing up left and right. It was completely opposite. It took an entire month to find enough players. After getting the school to sign off on the team, finding a coaching staff, and talking enough players into playing, several doctors and multiple physical therapists suggested against me participating in the sport because of nerve damage in ankle and shoulder and because my shoulder joint is loose. Even though the doctors told…
