Thesis Statement For Preschool
Topic: Education (improving inner-city schools; alternative/charter schools; effect of technology on education; importance of early childhood education; improving curriculum/learning; class size/teacher-student ratio; teacher recruitment; improving student achievement/graduation rates; rural school issues; legalizing state lottery to fund public education; gender, race or ethnic issues in education) Narrowed issue/problem: The issue/problem with today’s early childhood education is that most head starts and or preschools don’t really start the process or help parents to get the child/ children ready for kindergarten. They mainly play, color and dance around in head start/preschool.
Thesis statement: What head start and preschools should be doing to help parents prepare children for kindergarten and their future in school?
Outline with three or more supporting arguments: They should have outlined curriculum to send home to the parents and actually follow it. They should start them with the basics (learning and recognizing the alphabet and numbers). Helping the child/children to know how to recognize his or her name and possibly even writing it.

I was only able to do so much myself with preparing him for kindergarten. My son did not know the basics going into kindergarten; he is having problems recognizing all the letters of the alphabet capital and lower case. I believe that sense it is mandatory for a child to have two years of head start/preschool, then the head start/preschool should help with the process of getting the child/children to start

According to Gramling, it is clear that child development is very profitable to a child’s learning environment. Before 1960, the education of young children was the responsibility of families within the home. As of 2004, most young children in the United States spend some of their days apart from their parents. Most children attended some sort program like Headstart, Daycare or VPK prior to kindergarten. The enrollment rate for four-year-olds in 2001 was almost the same as the enrollment rate for five-year-olds in 1970. There are several factors that influence this dramatic change. One factor being a rise in the numbers of mothers working outside of the home, a decline in the size of families which leads more parents to turn to preschools as a social outlet for their children, and a desire to give children a head start academically. The higher the income and educational level of the parents, it is more likely that their child will attend preschool.…

Today many public schools have pre-kindergarten programs. The children in these programs come from different experiences, backgrounds, and all have different needs. Pre-kindergarten programs give children an advantage to learning prior to kindergarten. I performed my second filed observation at Pinkston Street Elementary School in Henderson, NC. The elementary school is in a rural county and this school has lots of diversity in which there are African-American, Caucasian, and Mexican students. The classroom that I observed is one of four pre-kindergarten classrooms in the school. The elementary school is also one of three of the schools in the county to require…

The preschool years which are the ages between 2 ½ years to five years old is an exciting time for children. It is during this time that they use all of the development learned during the infant and toddler stage to actively explore and engage in school. Preschoolers learn how to make their own choices, develop socially, and explore their environments. Parents and caregivers still play an important role in helping children during this time take initiative and explore their environments. Adult’s behaviors, attitudes, and styles of thinking contribute to preschooler’s development. Children develop at their own rate while showing developmental landmarks at different times. There are still important stages that occur during this period in a child’s growth physically, social-emotionally, cognitively, and their language…

For this assignment, I conducted much research on the Head Start Program. I visited the West End Gardens Head Start facility. There, I conducted an interview of three employees, where I sought to gain a better understanding of the overall nature of the Head Start program. This Head Start facility is located at 534 West 4th street in Plainfield, New Jersey. The neighborhood is very urban, where as, there were many people out and about walking on the streets. Its atmosphere is metropolitan and built up with many stores, offices, and municipal buildings. I found it surprising that children's school would be on such a busy street. All of the traffic made me a little weary about how safe the environment was. I chose this particular location because of its close proximity to my home.…

For this assignment, I plan to research the Head Start Program. Head Start is a child development program, which provides aid and assistance to financially less fortunate individuals. It serves children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. Head Start is child centered and focuses much attention on preparing young children from low-income families for school. This program is of great importance, and coincides to what we are learning about in class. It seems the goal of the Head Start program is to break pathological cycles of poverty and lack of education of those poverty stricken. Head Start helps parents improve basic literacy, numeric skills and employability skills, while promoting children's developmental growth through early childhood education. The Head Start program holds classes, which instruct parents on how to promote their child's cognitive, social, language, and physical development.…

Parent and family involvement is extremely important in education, especially early childhood education. I believe it is crucial that we encourage parents and families to understand how important their roles are in their child’s education. I would teach parents and families what they can do to make the early childhood education school system better through: community involvement; volunteerism at the school and in the child’s classroom; their support at home in guiding their children in homework and projects by using various techniques to help them further understand what is being taught in class; advocacy for our school system; and open communication.…
