Introduction Work environment is a central component in the life of a productive human being. Work environment offers a number of experiences through which a person evaluates the many years of his best life spent in working. The way a person sees and reacts to a work environment, however, can be associated to certain factors. Aamodth and Raynes (2001) described that factors like heredity, external environment, and person-situation interaction influence the personality of a person. The relationship between personality and attitude has been a subject of many researches and discussions in the various sectors of the society. According to the IBS Center for Management Research (2010), an individual’s personality is the way in which he views and understands himself, and the way in which he interacts with people. However, it is the person’s attitude that enables him to adapt to a given environment. From this perspective, it can be said that the attitude of a person may have bearing on his emotional intelligence and personality. Pertirdes, Pita, Kokkinaki (2007) described this connection whenthey pointed out that self-report emotional intelligence measures and personality measures converge because they both intend to measure personality traits.

Concepts and theories about attitude and traits of a person have been the subjects of many discussions and views of previous authors.     Emotional intelligence (EI) can be described as “a person's ability to detect and manage emotional cues and information” (Baack, 2012), and it is comprised of five features: self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills.     Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis designed the Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI) to assess competencies and positive social behavior. Very little assessments of reliability have been conducted on this theory. Therefore, the scale does not deserve serious consideration until experimental studies are conducted. The second measurement is the Emotional Quotient- Inventory (EQ-I) which was developed by Reuven Bar-On in 2005. EQ-I is a self-report measure that yields an overall Emotional Quotient score on five composite scales: intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, general mood, and stress management. However, each of the five composite scales cannot be conceptually related to EI. Due to this matter, the theory behind this measure is vague. The third type of measurement instrument is the Mayor, Salovey, Caruso, Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). This model measures the ability of EI and shows patterns of correlations that are similar to those of known intelligence. Evidence has been presented and argued convincingly throughout the literature that EI meets the standards for an intelligence test as a result of the criteria of the MSCEIT.     With the publication of Daniel Goleman’s book Emotional Intelligence in 1995, the business world got an answer to a question that had been plaguing it for decades: “Why did some people of a high IQ struggle at managing teams while other leaders of lower IQ excel at it”? Goleman asserted that the traditional measurement of IQ (intelligence quotient) was not enough to determine a good leader. Schools and universities concentrated on developing the cognitive and analytical part of the brain, while the teaching of how the emotional side of the brain worked was ignored. Goleman defined this “emotional intelligence” of a human being as a set of competencies that distinguish how one manages feelings and interacts with others. These emotional intelligence competencies are divided into two categories: personal and social. Personal competencies are how we manage our self and our own feelings, and social competencies are how we manage our inter-personal relationships. There are three basic personal competencies: knowing one’s emotions, managing emotions, and motivating one’s self. The two basic social competencies are recognizing emotions in others and handling relationships. Mastering these competencies, in addition to having sufficient IQ intelligence, makes for a truly effective leader.
