Angels and Demons in the Bible

Introduction
The differences between Angels and Demons are apparent in many ways. Many of us hear about angels through word of mouth and know about them through this manner as well. Angels are on the good side on the battle between good and evil. Angels are mentioned several times in the Bible, however, Theologians still find it a very difficult subject. Demons on the other hand are “evil Angels” that are on the bad side in the battle. In this paper you will discover the differences and in some instances the likeness between the Angels and Demons discussed in the Bible.
Theological Definition of Angels
The theological definition of the word Angel is “messenger”, generally a supernatural messenger from God. The word usually signifies a “spirit” however, the messenger may be human. The time of the angel’s creation is never really stated in the Bible. We do however know they were created before the creation of man thanks to the book of Job. The Bible states the God was the creator of all angels in John 1:1-3.
Biblical Foundation of Angels The study of Angels is called Angelology. Angels are spiritual beings that have intelligence, emotions and will. This applies to both good and evil angels. Angels do not have a physical body, per se, but this does not affect their personalities. Angels do not know as much as God does but they do have a greater knowledge than humans. “Angels have greater knowledge than humans possibly because of the following three reasons:
Angels were created as a higher order of creatures in the universe than human are, therefore innately they possess greater knowledge.
Angels study the Bible and the Word more thoroughly than humans do and gain knowledge from it.
Angels gain knowledge through long observation of human activities. Unlike humans, angels do not have to study the past; they have experienced it.

Like in the case of 9/11 where a few of Satan’s higher-ranking soldiers successfully convinced hijackers to use these same types of planes as missiles, crashing them into the World Trade Center. But in the case of U.S. Airways flight 1549, angels had successfully influenced the captain of the flight to be able to make a water landing in the Hudson, saving all 155 lives on board and sparing the same city its second 9/11 in less than a…

Soto gives this repetition of angels as a tool to indicate his own take on religion while deceivingly making a child’s perspective merely a mask. He elaborates the bond with himself and angels like a child would; using such words as “flopping”. He offers only a youthful outlook on how to interpret the presence of God by using the examples of “God howling in the plumbing underneath the house…” and “I knew an apple got Eve into deep trouble…” as if he was aware of who the divine is but he isn’t completely sure on how to explain God other than as he pictures God or…

    Plutarch And Daemons

Once asked what a daemon is, what generally comes to mind is an evil guy trying to tempt people into doing things but the Greeks had a different concept of what a daemon is. When comparing what daemons are, there are variations based on area and time period. Alpheus, Plutarch, and Iamblichus seem to agree on three concepts when referring to daemons: they rank between Gods and men in cosmic level, there are different types of daemons, and they can directly influence our life. However they disagree on several matters, such as: how these creatures behave, how much control they have over us, and how we recognize them.…

Part two of the book focuses more on how the reader can begin to see improvement and be able to stand up and what to look out for. “Even though we are secure in Christ and have all the protective armor we need, we are still vulnerable to Satan’s accusations, temptations, and deceptions (Anderson, 2000, p 114). Anderson goes in depth to discuss how Satan can harm us during our battle for freedom. One of which includes demons. There is more to demons than human beings know; each demon has a separate identity and can communicate, remember their former state, and make decisions (Anderson, 2000).…

some of those thoughts can have some truth to them some may be clouded or misled. Some of those people's judgements can be swayed depending on the amount of reputation a certain place has or the reputation that a very influential person has given it. In “The Very Old Man With Enormous wings” The priest, Father Gonzaga, makes no statement, whether it is an angel or not. The father reminds the town folk “that the devil had a bad habit of making use of carnival tricks to confuse the unwary… that wings were not an essential element… in the recognition of angels”(Marquez 2). This means that they should be careful where or in what they put their faith in. It later states that “his prudence fell on sterile hearts,” which means that they no longer have a regard for what he says. This is because of the preset image of what an angel is supposed to look like, a human body form with large wings. They see this thing that look like what they envision an angel to be and won't hear out the outer…

    51) “verily, verily” The word is transcribed into our Amen. John never, like the other Evangelists, uses the single verily, and like the single word in the Synopsis’s, it is used only by Christ. “Open” is the perfect participle. The participle signifies standing open, and is used in the story of Stephen’s martyrdom, Acts 7: 56 compare to Isaiah. 64:50. The image presented to the true Israelite is drawn from the history of his ancestor Jacob (Genesis 28: 12). The “Angels” used with the exception of (John 12: 29 and John 20: 13), John does not use the word “angel” elsewhere in the Gospel or in the Epistles, and does not refer to their being or ministry. Trench (“Studies in the Gospels”) cites a beautiful passage of Plato as suggestive of Lord’s words. Plato is speaking of love. “He is a great spirit, and like all spirits he is intermediate between the divine and the mortal. He interprets between gods and men, conveying to the gods the prayers and sacrifices of men, and to men the commands and replies of the gods, he is the mediator who spans the chasm which divides them, and in him all is bound together, and through him the acts of the prophet and the priest, their sacrifices mysteries and charms not with all prophets and incantation find their way. For God mingles not with man, but through Love all the intercourse and speech of God with man, whether awake or asleep, is carried on” ( “ Symposium,” 203). “Son of man” we can see on Luke 6: 22. Notice the titles…

The old man enters into the lives of the whole town as a humble and elderly man who apparently has huge unanticipated wings. He is first seen by Pelayo and Elisenda who stare at him so long that “in the end [they] found him familiar” (400). His attire is the very opposite of what he is expected to look like and he appears to be neither fully human nor fully supernatural. He is the ideal image of a living myth apart from the fact that he is dirty and dressed in rags. His wings should mean power and freedom of motion, yet they were useless against the rain and as a result he becomes powerless and entrapped under them on the beach. As tradition, Christians often detail angels as beautifully structured…

Since then, the stories of demons and devils have intertwined with our society, leaving behind a long history that includes many appearances by Lucifer, who is often recognised as a demon to many people, to give us the image of the Devil we have today. Jeffrey Burton Russel, an American historian and religious studies scholar analyses the Devil in his own works such as; Satan: The Early Christian Tradition (1981), Lucifer: The Devil in the Middle Ages (1984), and Mephistopheles: The Devil in the Modern World (1986). In The Devil in the Modern World Russel’s third installment of his history of Devil-culture relations, he details the concept of the Devil and how it changed throughout the past centuries. Russel details the past portrayals of the Devil and creates his own definitions based off the studies, writing: “The Devil is the symbol of radical evil. But does he exist, and in what sense? The key to the question is in what sense.” (Russel 18). In what sense do we have to look at when analysing the Devil to this degree? Russel expands on this question through the roots…
