The Pros And Cons Of Electric Vehicles
5561 - A World with Only Electric Vehicles Today our lives are thought to be in danger due to global warming. Global warming is defined as a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants. Thought to be a big contribution to global warming are the emissions that come from the exhaust of our cars. Electric vehicles do not have tailpipes that exhaust fumes to pollute so they are the logically thought of the cleaner form of transportation. Imagine if everyone suddenly had electric vehicles, would we be able to provide enough energy to power them all? If not how much more do we need to make it possible and will the way we produce the energy pollute just as much as the fossil fueled vehicles they replaced? Electric cars are common to see on the road and it is also common to find changing stations in parking lots. Since it has not been common until recently, electric cars feel like a new idea but they have been around since the 1800s. In 1832 Robert Anderson developed the first crude electric vehicle that is not practical. William Morrison created the first successful electric vehicle in …show more content…
The biggest difference between gasoline and electric vehicles is the engine. Instead of an internal combustion engine the electric vehicle has an electric motor. Also instead of gasoline as fuel an electric vehicle uses batteries for energy. Finally, instead of injecting fuel into the motor the electric car has a motor controller that takes power from the batteries and delivers it to the motor. With different components the vehicles function differently. The accelerator pedal in an electric vehicle is connected to a pair of potentiometers which provide the signal that tells the controller how much power it is supposed to deliver. The power delivered translates to the speed of the

Gasoline powered vehicles are the types of vehicles that are commonly used around the world. Gasoline powered vehicles utilize an internal combustion power train. Power train refers to the group of components within the vehicle that generates power. Internal combustion engines are typically associated with gasoline even though variations of the internal combustion engine can be fueled by other sources. The main stream alternative to gasoline is diesel fuel.…

Never let a salesmen force you to make your decision quickly by saying common lines like "the car will not still be here tomorrow" or "there is another customer coming to look at this car today". It is just not true. Do not be afraid to walk away and let them make the next move. Buying a car is pure negotiation: know what you want, don't wait around for them, make them come to you , and remember that you can always find a better deal. Because of the increase in gas prices during the summer, consumers are seriously considering buying electric cars. Consumers are expecting 10 times as much performance from their cars as technology can currently provide. Consumers are very interested in the technology behind electric cars but are being discouraged…

(TS)Pollution, global warming, and the price of fuel pose real problems for an auto industry churning out gas vehicles, however, electric vehicles offer hope for the future. (PS)Most electric vehicles look and perform just like a gas vehicle.(SS) For example, the electric-powered Dodge Circuit EV resembles the gas-powered Dodge Challenger.(SS) Both sport the bold look of a muscle car, And both have all the standard features such as power windows and doors, gps, air conditioning, and heating.(SS)They even perform similarly; both go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds and perform the ¼ mile in 15.5 seconds.(PS)Electric and gas vehicles tie comes to an end coast and convenience are much better on the electric side then the opposing gas guzzling side. (SS)For example, the lithium-ion battery of the Circuit EV uses far less energy than the gas guzzling V8 engine used by the Challenger. (SS)The Circuit EV can go 150 to 200 miles between charges and costs about $6 to $12 a week in electricity; in contrast, the Challenger averages 14 miles per gallon in the city and 22 on the highway Plus, based on the price of oil, gasoline can cost as much as $5 a gallon, and those dollars add up with the miles. (PS)The final difference is convenience. (SS) Many people and much energy must be used to refuel a gas vehicle Oil has to be refined into gasoline, stored, transported, and pumped. (SS) However, to recharge an electric vehicle, all one has to do is plug it into a standard household outlet or a socket on a charging station.(CS)Gas and electric automobiles perform similar ,however, electric is cheaper and more reliable making it the car of the future.…

Electric cars cost, not so bad. The cost for electric cars may seem like a lot, but it's not. First of all, after tax credits, electric cars only cost about $20,00 which isn't a lot for car that's saving the environment. The batteries do cost a lot to replace, but they last a long time, up to ten years! Also, with an electric car there is no need for gasoline. For a full charge on for an electric car, it only costs $2.64, while the typical full tank of gasoline costs around $50. It has been shown that Americans spend from $4,000-$7,000 yearly on gasoline. One of the disadvantages is that people may have to install a charging system at home. A charging system only costs a little over a thousand dollars, but people won't be burning fossil fuels,…

Imagining the modern American society without the internal combustion engine is like thinking of the United States without the Eastern Interconnection Power Grid. Modern Transportation is such a vital part of life in Western civilizations that there is no way to live without it. First world societies have glorified the use of fossil fuels and combustion engines which emit greenhouse gasses into the Earth’s atmosphere. In addition to the high amount of greenhouse gas emissions, humans are using up fossil fuels at an alarming rate. It is pivotal that humans find a to achieve sustainable, zero emission transportation. Convincing a population to switch over to zero emission transportation will be a challenge on many levels. Transferring from conventional cars to fully electric cars is a viable and necessary action to help preserve Earth and to achieve sustainable transportation.…

The first disadvantage is the price. Electric car batteries are not cheap, and the better the battery, the more you will need to pay. For example, the Chevy volt has a 40 mile range and sells for around $30,000. Comparing that the 230 to 300 mile range of cars made by Tesia motors, which sell for anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000. Even though it is quite ride, science can be as a disadvantage, People like to hear cars when they are coming up behind them or besides them, and you can’t hear if an electric car is near you. This has been known to lead to accidents. Most electric cars currently on the road do not have long ranges. Although in the future it will improve, most of the cars have a range of less than 25 miles, and you can 't truly see the great benefits until you ride in a vehicle with a longer range, but most cars take a long time to recharge their batteries. The example given before Tesla motors models can recharge in 45 minutes, but the most electric cars right now take hours to charge (approximately 7- 8 hours)[5]. You can 't drive the car while the batteries are charging usually, so your car will be out of commission whilst it is plugged in. if you were on the road going on a long trip, just in case you might like to carry an extra battery, but the battery ways so much, that the speed of the car would be weighed down…

Imagine a world where every Canadian winter is sunny and 70 degrees. While this might sound nice to Canadians who deal with brutal winters every year, this means that summers closer to the equator would be well over 100 degrees constantly. Rendering these places almost uninhabitable, our world would be in a crisis. Unfortunately, this is where our world may be headed one day, if we as humans don’t clean up energy consumption habits. One major contributing factor to global warming are the cars humans drive every, more specifically the engines that power them. Gasoline engines are a major problem because of the emissions they put into the atmosphere; however, electric engines and other alternatives may prove to be the future.…

Electricity. One word that can rescue the earth from its current demise, global warming. Since 1880, global warming has increased by 0.8° celsius which may not seem like a substantial increase but it is. According to (NASA 2014) the average weather changes everyday in different countries, but this is the entire world's average temperature. A 1° global change is significant because it takes a colossal amount of heat to warm all the oceans, atmosphere, and land by that much. In the past, a 1 to 2° drop was all it took to put the earth into the Ice Age (). A 5° drop was enough to bury a immense part of North America under a towering mass of ice approximately 20,000 years ago. If global warming continues the effects on this planet will amplify coastal erosion, increase the growing season in some regions, melt ice caps and glaciers, and alter the ranges of some infectious diseases (Feature Articles). Some of these alterations have already begun for instance, increased temperatures and more heat waves around the world. Most scientists agree that the main cause for global warming is the greenhouse effect or greenhouse gases. In Canada, the largest source of greenhouse gases is from burning fossil fuels to gain combustion sources, transportation, fugitive sources, industrial processes, agriculture, and waste. Transportation is the second most leading cause of greenhouse gases with a total of 28.2% emitted from vehicles last recorded in 2010. In vehicles the primary source is that causes greenhouse gases is no other than gasoline. Therefore, part of the population who use vehicles that require gasoline should be using an alternate such as electricity, to reduce greenhouse gases, and to minimize…

The electric car is so much more advanced than gasoline powered cars and have changed the world even more. Gregory Davis says “Electric cars have several advantages over engine-powered cars. Their operation produces no exhaust, and so their widespread use could reduce air pollution. They use batteries, and so they do not necessarily consume increasingly scarce petroleum resources. Electric cars are quiet, reducing noise in congested areas.”…

Production of electric cars is speeding up, as Ford prepares tointroduce its C-Max Energi next year to compete with General Motors' much-hyped Chevrolet Volt. But a new British study suggests that electric vehicles might not be as green as environmentalists think. Because of pollution from the factories that make batteries, an electric car has a bigger carbon footprint than a gas-burning vehicles until it's traveled 80,000 miles, according to the research, which was financed by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership. Does this mean electric cars aren't good for the planet after all?…

On the other hand, electric cars have a lot of disadvantages too. First of all the limited range of the electric cars is probably the biggest disadvantage. Most affordable electric cars only have about 80 to 100 miles of range. Which is not enough if you are for instance going on a long road trip. People who have electric cars need to properly plan, assuring that they will not go over the limited…

Are electric vehicles really good for our environment? An electric vehicle is a vehicle that runs on renewable resources instead of gasoline. In the early 1800’s, innovators in the United States, Netherlands, and Hungary began to experiment with the concept of a battery powered vehicle and created some of the first small-scale electric cars. Electric cars grew popular in the 1900’s because it didn’t have any issues with gasoline, it didn’t produce any smelly pollutants, and it was easy to drive. Yes, electric vehicles are good for our environment. Electric vehicles are better for the environment, saves money and oil, are low maintenance, and are also better for our health. Energy.gov states, “Thomas Edison, one of the world’s most prolific inventors, thought electric vehicles were the superior technology and worked to build a better electric vehicle battery.” Non-electric vehicle drivers do not have these benefits and will harm their environment. Electric…
