Ian Brady and Myra Hindley were perfect soul mates for each other due to their bond of kidnapping, child molesting and murder which lead to be the most hated couple in Britain. In 1965, the couple had killed 5 children but only finding 3 bodies buried in Saddleworth Moor in Northwest England, contributing to the name “The Moors Murders”. David Smith, Hindley’s brother-in-law, attributed to the catching of the murderous couple (Padnani, 2017). When their last victim named Edwards Evans was killed, Smith helped clean the body but out of consciousness, he told his wife and the police, which lead to their arrest. Right before their arrest Parliament abolished capital punishment so the couple could only be sentience life in prison.
Brady had a tough life while growing up, but never once did he try to help himself. He lived with his mother, but she neglected him and found himself in the foster system settling down in Gorbals (Reporters, 2017). Edging in his teenage years, he began a spree of petty crime and alcoholism, and landed back living with his mom and her new husband. Brady then moved to Manchester for the company he worked for and met Myra Hindley, the secretary of the company. These two made the perfect team of serial killers that lead to killing 5 innocent children and changed England forever (Christodoulou & Mullin, 2017).
On July 12, 1963, the couple claimed their first victim, Pauline Reade while she was on her way to the disco. Brady wanted to “commit his perfect murder” so he got Hindley to drive a van while he was on motorbike to complete this task. Hindley lured Pauline Reade in by asking for help to find her glove that she had lost on the Moor then Brady slashed her throat twice then sexually assaulted her. On October 7,1965, Superintendent Bob Talbot of the Cheshire Police was invited into their home, which gave police the opportunity to look around. They did not find anything until the reach the spare bedroom. Talbot tried the door handle, but it was lock, then demanded for her to unlock the room. Hindley did as she was told and there he found the body of Edward Evans wrapped in plastic sheeting. Four days later, additional searches took place finding two luggage tickets leading them to Manchester Central Station. Inside the luggage, they found a picture of Lesley Ann Downey and a tape recording of her being tortured and begging for her life. On October 16, 150 officers began the sweep of the Saddleworth Moor area where they found Lesley Ann and John Killbride (Christodoulou & Mullin, 2017).
These cruel murderers took the stand and was convicted of killing Edward Evans and Lesley Ann Downey on May 6, 1966. During the trial, the tape recording of Downey was played, all 16 minutes of it. The jurors listened intently to the whole tape from the screaming and pleading of her life until she fell silent and died.
