The Lottery Literary Analysis Paragra

People generally seem okay and well natured, but its a certainty that people have a second side. Within the Lottery by Chris Albani, this can be seen easily. In the Lottery we are introduced to our main character who is walking with his aunt. As the two walk it is revealed that our main character's aunt is a person who proselytizes, much to his embarrassment, but despite her religious fanaticism he believes her a good person. This unfortunately changes when a man accused of thievery runs past and him and his aunt, and a mob chase after him, and burn the man to death in front of him. This shows her cruel and ruthless side in contrast to her kind religious side. The fact alone is a horrifying example of human nature, but the true horror is how it is revealed people gain that awful other side. Our protagonists aunt forces him to spit on the burned thief despite his dislike and fear of the situation, causing him to change and hold this experience forever, “Bring the children to the front so they may learn!”. This an excellent example of human nature,how its made, and it’s duality. Chris Albani portrayed it really well in the Lottery with the aunt and the actions of the mob as well showing that people always have a second side to them.
