The decision on whether to promote one of the existing store managers or to hire someone from the outside is not an easy one. Each option has advantages and disadvantages. If you promote one of the store managers, you gain the advantage of someone who is already familiar with the day to day operations. Unless this person also has previous experience at this type of management, there will not be any new ideas introduced to the organization. In order to do this, they would need to hire someone from the outside. Though this person may not be familiar with the product line, new management ideas could be introduced into the organization. New ideas could help the organization run more efficiently. Someone who has experience managing a large team over a large geographic area plus some training experience and finance experience would be a great find for the company.…

Creating a position between the CEO and location managers would be somewhat a good idea. I see that as a bad idea for them right now because how they are running their business it’s a day to day decision. If they create that position that’s another salary they have to afford and it doesn’t seem like they are ready for it yet. A good thing about it is that they can have a certain person focus on the pros and cons of the business and see the inside and outside of the business. It seems to be that they want to hire an area director to go around to locations and see how the sales are and how the store is being run. Also that person can help Dalman and Lei advertise their business and try to get it on local radio stations, flyers, newspaper, and coupons for repeating customers, and maybe even designing a mascot to go on the sidewalk and pass out the coupons and bring people in.…

Using self-managed teams within the Sandwich Blitz company would help the company grow. This will also allow Dalman to have more time to concentrate on the expansion as well. Self-managed teams empower employees most often in manufacturing, workers are trained to do all most of the jobs in the unit, they have no immediate supervisor, and they make decisions previously made by the first-line supervisors (Bateman & Snell, 2012). Self-managed teams can offer several possible advantages that could be used at Sandwich Blitz; including stronger commitment, employee and customer fulfilment, improved quality, improved…

While visiting all of their operating locations has heard how successful they have been using the team approach. If Dalman and Lei would assign managers under them they would be able to be more equipped to handle the daily activities of Sandwich Blitz. The self-managed teams would require training to be able to determine what type of training would help the handle the daily responsibilities. The difference between a group of people working for and team,is that a group will interact and do a task but will not necessarily work together to achieve goals or achieve performance improvements and a team will work together as one to trust each other and accomplish the goals. Once they are trained they will be able to reach their goals. This would also allow Dalman’s involvement in visiting each individual organization could be decreased. The self-managed teams should be able to hand manager operation concerns. Lei will able to stay back and completely concentrate on Sandwich Blitz’s financial matters without being disturbed. “Teams can enhance speed and be powerful forces for innovation and change” (Bateman, 2013). To start the process the managers should form a semiautonomous work group, and guide and teach new team members not supervise them. This would put the team in charge of their individual stores, but they will still have the upper management to lean on. Dalman and Lei should then set some short term goals. Team Leaders should train the new self-managed team so they can better manage daily routines. The team should discuss tasks, roles and how decisions will be made and agree on them. With proper training the self-managed team can offer many advantages. Some being employee and customer satisfaction, and improved products. The team should work together sharing their personal experiences as to what works best to resolve the issues their stores are facing.…

    1) The original structure of C & C Grocery is excellent for one to five stores. The original structure of the C & C Grocery stores has caused a disconnection between the store managers, and the perishable managers (meat and produce managers). The meat and produce managers report directly to the district managers of their prospective departments. However, the store managers are responsible for the daily operations of the entire store. This disconnect in itself is a major disruption in productivity. The District Director was the only person in the work breakdown structure that knew what was going on in his district within all sections of every store. When only one person knows all aspects of an operation it becomes difficult for that operation to function as a whole in the absence of that individual. By adopting the realign outlined by the consultants it would allow the store managers more control of the store. This would allow the store mangers the ability to coordinate activities within their store and allows flexibility to make decisions that would enable the store to run more effectively.…

With HCE’s current situation, including the riskiness of the venture, initially planned low margins, and high start-up costs, it would practical to get the plant the manager from inside the current managerial ranks. It will lessen the risk because they will get a person who already is inside the organization and knows the goals of the organization. It is the human resource’s responsibility to get people with the least risk and fits the organization. Also, getting it from the outside will be hard due to the unattractiveness of the position in terms of pay level, which is at the low end of the market, and limited benefits. Good pay level and great benefits are what people look for in a job, especially in a managerial position, which will decrease the chances of HCE for attracting applicants for the position.…
