Through The Tunnel Questions

1) The relationship between the boy and his mother. The mother is overprotective and clingy of Jerry. She allows him to explore and be independent. She endorses that. 3rd person means we can tell their thoughts that establish the relationship. Jerry feels as if he needs to take his fathers role of taking care of his mother e.g. when he looks back at her.

2) Naked arm represents how she doesn’t have anyone to hold hands with. Missing her husband and jerry’s father. She’s exposed and damaged by the sun. The real word and her journey, his rite of passage is shown on her mothers arm and shows the pain and suffering she’s going through. The arm also symbolises her letting go of Jerry showing that he is not a child anymore he wants to grow up and be independent which hurts her because he is becoming distant she is lonely without a husband.

3) In the mother’s beach was crowded which shows that she needs to be surrounded by people since she’s so lonely.
In his beach there are promontories, which shows that he has high hopes and dreams of him becoming an independent man. Jerry’s beach was quiet which shows that he needs to go on this journey by himself. His beach was described as being a wild place. This is stereotyped for males being physically stronger and risking their loves by putting themselves into dangerous situations, which is what Jerry, desires to do. Whereas females are seen as more safe – his mum being in her “safe” beach.

4) The author enhances the tension during the attempt to swim through the tunnel by using descriptive language of what’s physically going on e.g. head exploding, lungs cracking. He wasn’t conscious or thinking straight because he was repeating 115. Despite all the pain he still is determined to keep going through the darkness. Short sentences – quick paced, panicky. His internal timer added to the fast paced situation.

5) Jerry acts as a child when he was saying, “Look at me” to the other guys.

Imagery is also used to illustrate the physical change which has occurred to her and the washing line. As time has passed, her hands are now described as "beginning to accumulate the line-etched story of life in scars and wrinkles" and the washing line having "sagging wires" This suggests that as the time passed, she also changed, not only mentally but also physically, just like the washing line. The tone which is used in the first five paragraphs are very much bright and alive, like children, compared the last paragraph, which is…

Vivid imagery is used through out the poem to demonstrate where Trethewey’s resentment towards her stepfather comes from. The last line of the poem reveals why her mother is suffering and gives us the explanation in a very powerful, yet subtle way. She states “what’s inside—mother, stepfather’s fist?” (line 15). Here she’s telling us…

The page following the book’s title depicts a scene at sea. The whole image is washed with a dark blue from the sky to the ocean, and the crashing waves convey a menacing journey has taken place. At the bottom of the page, if one looks closely, it is evident that the bottom of the wooden raft has been drawn but blends into the rest of the image. This inclusion of the raft changes the perspective of the image as the responder is now been positioned as if they were looking out from the raft, the place of the Man. An immediate bond has now been formed between the responder and the man, and for the rest of the text we continue to sympathise with him.…

“A Rose for Emily” is a short story written by William Faulkner, and uses a lot of symbols to create different elements of the story. These symbols he uses are really what make this story interesting. You can see that family is a mina concept during that time and what connects with that is the background in this oil painting. One of the symbolic thing in this picture would have to be the furniture that you can see, this represents how people had a great amount of money and you can really tell by just how this room is set up. On one side, there was the safe and harmless beach, where Jerry would be with his mom, protected and shielded; while on the other side, we had the, “wild and rocky bay”, as described by the author. This is exactly Jerry’s conflict in the narrative. Lessing is symbolizing how he has a part of himself which is being sheltered and still wants to with his mother, but he also has a place where he can be an individual, and challenge himself in order to prove what he can do without his mother. This is what makes the story true to its thesis; we knew when Jerry went to the dangerous side of the beach, he would try his hardest to overcome gaining…

    The Tabernacle

The Tabernacle A few key elements about the making of the Tabernacle are that God was the architect of the sanctuary. It was made from offerings brought by the people (Exodus vs. 1-2), which indicates that God was concerned about the heart of the giver just like he is today. It was to be a place of consecration and structure as well as a repository for the law (Ten Commandments). Most importantly, it was a replica of heavenly things or the worship experience in heaven. As Moses instructed the people on how to construct the Tabernacle, he did it according to how God instructed him on the mountain which was based on his heavenly experience. The construction of the Tabernacle and Moses’ experience on Mount Sinai where he was given the Ten Commandments go hand in hand. In addition to the Ten Commandments, he was given very detailed and specific instructions on how to construct the Tabernacle or “place of worship” where God dwelled among the people. The Ten Commandments represented the moral law and the Tabernacle represented the spiritual law and they were companion one to the other. The Ten Commandments represented the holy standards of God for HIS people. The Tabernacle, its contents and all things associated with it represented God’s structure for our lives. It is also a spiritual blue print of how to live and how to treat those we live with who from time to time sin against God and us. This is evident by the very specific and well-structured specifications on the layout of the Tabernacle and the worship experience. The layout of the Tabernacle consists of the following features which each had very specific dimensions and placement within the Tabernacle: The Ark of the Testimony, The Mercy Seat, The Table, The Golden Candlestick, the Curtains of the Tabernacle, Goats’ Hair Curtains, The Covering and the Boards, The Bars, The Vail, A Hanging Door, The Tabernacle Altar, The Court, Dimensions of the Court, Olive Oil for the Lamp. While these contents are very…
