Strengths
"An irrefutable must-read on leadership that is a simple and powerful list of guidelines to help build leadership in many arenas."
---S. Truett Cathy, Founder and Chairman, Chick-Fil-A, Inc.
With each Law, the author describes the theory behind the Law. For example, with the Law of Sacrifice, the theory is that a leader must be willing to sacrifice in order to achieve. He expounds upon his point by explaining that a leader gives up rights - in exchange for responsibilities - the higher the leader rises. The leader must sacrifice for the good of the organization. This is a book with some valuable practical insights. But don’t be mislead-while Maxwell offers practical insights, there is very little biblical material of involved. Australians will find some features of the book irritating. We don’t share the American “Leadership culture”, and Maxwell’s personal reminiscences about his leadership triumphs will leave most readers cold. Phil Campbell http://perspective.Org.au/book/202/executive-summary
It was not a bad book, but I was not incredibly impressed. Though I have not experienced all of these "laws" I would say that all of them are likely true. However, I was somewhat disappointed because much of it was simple common sense. By Chris Mclain, http:// www.goodreads.com
MY PERSONAL REACTION
On my own point of view, I didn’t discover any weaknesses but only the strength which emphasize that Maxwell has a gift of choosing the right stories to highlight each leadership law he has formed. The 21 Irrefutable laws of Leadership is a must-read for each and every aspiring leader. Maxwell cast aside many Corporate American “ leadership” stereotype-claiming that a true leader is someone who sacrifices for the team, gives power to others, and sets the team up to succeed without his guidance. While leaders sometimes worry that their subordinates may eventually surpass them in the corporate chain of command. When it comes to my personal experienced, I strongly affirm that leadership is influence. Maxwell defines leadership as influence. It‘s simple, effective, and precise. In my 26 years of living, I undergone with a lot of leaders in my life. All of them really taught me to become an effective leader on my own and somehow influence me of who I’ am right now. But among them, I truly give salute and credit to my parents as a pastor for more than 30 years. They taught me that “Jesus Christ is the great master whom best to follow”. Indeed, their leadership inside and outside the Church equipped and engaged me to be an active leader in many organizations during my high school and college days. Their principles are closely related to John C. Maxwell which more often based on bible teachings and principles (1) Proverbs 29:18 — "Where there is no vision the people perish." In The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork (ILT), Maxwell asserts, "vision gives team members direction and confidence" (ILT, p. 96). The context shows that Maxwell is thinking of a vision as the ability of the team to "look beyond current circumstances and any obvious shortcomings of current teammates to see the potential of the team" (ILT. p. 95). A leader must do the right thing at the present and has a clear vision in the future. It gives me a clear and widens my knowledge about leadership. It’s indeed a blessing to me! I learned a lot of things that I could use to my journey to become more effective & influence leader. Some of the lessons I learned are the following; (1) Leadership is a collection of skills. Leadership is something you can learn and improve at. Maxwell says, “Although it is true that some people are born with greater natural gifts than others, the ability to lead is really a collection of skills, nearly all of which can be learned and improved.” (2) Success is a daily thing. You can be successful one day or one decision at a time. Maxwell says, “If you can handle today correctly, tomorrow will take care of itself.” Thus, everything rises and falls in leadership. The more you try to do in life, the more you’ll find that leadership makes a difference.

Of all these 48 laws, the most effective always seemed to be the most simple. Law 1: Never Outshine the Master, is by far the simplest and the most easily broken by those who don’t know the consequence. “Always make those above you feel superior. Make your masters appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power”. Written elaborately, it basically means to always make those in charge feel smarter than they are. Shower those with power with praise of brilliance and admiration, so they will never expect you underhandedness or your betrayal.…
