STEM Camp
QUT’s Vice-Chancellor’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) camp will give students a taste of the STEM disciplines by engaging in a hands-on, intensive exploration of a project in their chosen discipline. Students will work in teams of 3-4 and apply their creativity and investigative skills on topics such as: addressing environmental issues; solving problems in the energy, food and medical sectors; and improving information dissemination and security.
The STEM Camp is an intellectually challenging four day event, run in the mid semester holiday break, June 2013. The camp is fully funded by QUT – there is no cost for students to attend and it is open to high-achieving South-East Queensland year 11 students. Students will have an exciting opportunity to engage in solving some of the major challenges facing our society and planet in the twenty-first century in QUT’s new unique learning environment, the Science and Engineering Centre. It is important to emphasize that activities will be used to link the importance of STEM to career opportunities in those fields.
Dates Times Location 25 - 28 June 2013 (School Holidays) 9.30am - 4.30pm (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri) Queensland University of Technology Gardens Point campus 2 George Street Brisbane QLD 4001 Lunch, program materials and activities. To be accepted into this program, students must be: - a current Queensland Year 11 student - studying a science (Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental or Biology), Mathematics, Engineering Technology or Computer Science - aged 15 as of 1 June, 2013 - given parental/guardian permission Applications close on 30 April 2013 Applicants need to complete the application form with signed permission from parent/guardian and include the following supporting documents: - written statement of purpose (300 words) describing interest in science,
