Solar Energy
Energy Outline
A. Benefits Of Solar Energy
• Does not release green house gases
• Production of solar energy does not produce smoke, gas, or any other chemical byproducts
• Solar energy contributes to about 4 percent of the world’s electricity
• Italy’s Montalto di Castro solar park: o good example of how solar contributes to the decrease in emissions o Decreases the carbon emissions by about 20,000 tons per year compared to fossil fuel energy production.
• Money! o Except for the initial installation and maintenance, solar energy is absolutely free o Does not require expensive raw materials like oil or coal o Less staff working at the power plants since the sun and solar semi conductors do majority of the work
• Jobs o Creates jobs o According to the EIAA, Europe’s solar industry created 100,000 jobs o Types of jobs include: manufacturing, installing, monitoring and maintaining solar panels, research and design. Development, cultural integration, and policy jobs
• Benefits the eco system o Will not require the destruction of forests because solar energy does not require constantly mining raw materials
• Water According to the American Wind Energy Association: o Nuclear power: 2.3 liters of water required to produce one kilowatt hour of electricity o Coal: 1.9 liters of water required to produce one kilowatt hour of electricity o Oil: 1.6 liters of water required to produce one kilowatt hour of electricity o Solar Energy: 110 milliliters of water required to produce one kilowatt hour of electricity o Hence solar energy does not use as much water
B. How solar energy is produced
• Solar panels work through photovoltaic process o Radiation energy is absorbed and it generates electricity
• Specifically, radiation energy is absorbed through semi conductor cells, which are normally silicon. Then it is transformed from light energy into electric current
• When the radiation of the sun hits a silicon atom, a photon of light energy is

When atoms absorb energy, electrons move into higher energy levels, and these electrons lose energy by emitting light when they return to lower energy levels. Energy levels are fixed energies that electrons can have. Ordinary light is made up of a mixture of all the wavelengths of light. Light, consisting of waves consists of wavelength and frequencies that are inversely proportional to each other, so as the wavelength of light increases,…

Looking into macroeconomics issues when considering starting a Solar Panel contracting business, we must identify the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate. The price of energy and how use it is a determining factor on its GDP growth rate. Solar Panels are a lower cost energy source needed in today’s economy. Having affordable energy helps the economy as its facilities economic growth. The shares of energy in the U.S. has decreased, but it is still a component of the overall economy and the world share of energy. (Institute for Energy Research, 2010)…

Solar energy is one of the most widely used energy resources throughout the world solar energy is the most promising renewable energy resources. It is widely available and easy for any one to use it is practical for individual use to power a single home or for a company facility such as bright sources solar facility in the Mojave Desert California. The facility can produce up to 377 megawatt. It uses three towers with mirrors surrounded by solar panels to reflect the light on to the solar panels to harness the suns energy. The benefits of solar much more out weigh the negatives solar can save billions of trillions of dollars for nations. The reliability of solar energy is great rising and setting of the sun is consistent while cloudy days are less predictable there are more than enough sunny days to power homes. “She…

Furthermore, renewable energy is a very niche market. It makes up only 8% of the total energy industry. SolarWorld’s practice, active solar technology, occupies just 1% of the total renewable energy due to its high cost and capital investment. This leaves a big hole for threat of substitutes such as coal, nuclear or natural gas energy, which are mostly the primary choice before renewable energy.…
