TDA 2.2: Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

1.1~ Identify the current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young children including e-safety

The children's act was written in 1989 in 2003 'Every Child Matters' was launched in response to the death of Victoria Climbie which brought a change to the children act 2004.

* Be healthy: physical, mentally and emotionally healthy, sexually healthy and healthy lifestyles choose not to take illegal drugs.
* Stay safe: safe from neglect, violence and sexual exploitation, safe from accidental injury and death, safe from bullying and discrimination, safe from crime and anti-social behaviour in and out of school, have security, stability

*Burns or scalds- from cigarettes, irons, baths, or kettles
*Fractures- any bone in the body can be broken as a result of child abuse
*Bruising- from being slapped, punched, kicked, shaken or squeezed
* Cuts- scratches, bite marks and torn frenulum (this can easily be torn by violent blows to the face or mouth this could also happen to the penis and bottom area of the body)
* May be afraid of adults
* Withdrawal
* Aggression
* Reluctance to change for pe

-Emotional abuse: when a parent or another adult in charge cause emotional harm or fails to protect a child
* Yelling, screaming at, threatening, frightening or bullying a child
* Name calling, saying things like your no good, your bad or having you was a mistake
* Giving the child the cold shoulder and constantly blamed for things that go wrong
* Showing little affection (no hugs, I love you)
* Locking the child in a closet or dark room
* The child will become withdrawn and tearful
* Delay in physical and/or emotional development
* Speech disorders
* The child could also start telling lies, stealing to get attention

-Neglect: when the child's parent or other person does not provide for a child's physical, developmental, emotional or psychological
