Similarities and Differences Between Claude Monet, Landscape with Thunderstorm and Vincent Van Gogh, Cornfield with Cypresses
a) Vincent Van Gogh: Cornfield with Cypresses Vincent Van Gogh painted this landscape in 1889. He considered it one of his best landscape paintings because at that time he found interest only in cypresses. There were 3 very similar versions of this painting where the colour of the sky changed from blue to green based colours.

A Wheat Field, with Cypresses, September 1889,
Vincent van Gogh made these paintings when he was able to leave the mental asylum, he suffered from schizophrenia.
In early July Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo about his work that he had started in June, Wheat Field with Cypresses: "I have a canvas of cypresses with some ears of wheat, some poppies, a blue sky like a piece of Scotch plaid; the former painted with a thick impasto . . . and the wheat field in the sun, which represents the extreme heat, very thick too."
Van Gogh considered this landscape as one of his "best" summer paintings and in autumn he made two additional oil paintings very similar in composition. When I look at the painting, the sky has something almost uneasy or stormy about it. It could almost be a wild or stormy sea. The two cypresses on the right look like two flames and the wheat looks like fire smouldering. The clouds have now become smoke...
Van Gogh seems to transmit in his painting a sense of intensity of emotion. b) Claude Monet

In the painting we see a very clear argument Cole the artist is trying to convey. A very distinct line down the middle of the scene creates a clear border between the untouched wilderness that Cole and his Hudson River School are known for. On the other side of the border lays clear skies with farmland and developed land, which gives the notion that a storm is either coming or subsiding as the wilderness part of the piece is drenched by storm. The actual light of the piece appears to have minimal effect. Implied…

“Sunrise” is of an everyday scene in nature with vibrant colors that appear to be mixed directly on the canvas, which are all characteristics of the Impressionism period. The first thing to note is the overall composition of the painting. First and foremost it is a landscape painting. The colors are very monochrome; the space is stretched to reveal a depth to the painting that the eye cannot capture; and there is stillness to the art that embraces nature and serenity of life. In the right-hand corner of the painting there is calligraphy. The calligraphy lacks the precision, but is very clear in its form, much like the depiction within the painting itself.…

This piece of art was created by Claude Monet. He is known as the classic impressionist. In this painting, he captures the ever-changing nature of light and color. Unlike a lot of paintings, you can see the brush strokes in this painting. But I believe that the brush strokes used help create the piece of art and they help show the leaves and flowers on the trees. Also, it helps make the clouds in the sky look more hazy and beautiful.…

They’re all shaped differently and colored in different shades of blue. It reminds me of when a light storm flows through and new brighter clouds come in and take over over for the rest of the day. That is why I think that this painting has a focal point,it’s easy to be drawn to and it gives you a short story to go along with it. I love how the painting is so straightforward, the title helped me interpret what I saw, from the setting to the weather. The houses reminds me of modern art that could be found in California, the clouds tell me that this location could be in northern California.…

At the left-bottom corner of the painting, the viewer is presented with a rugged-orangish cliff and on top of it, two parallel dark green trees extending towards the sky. This section of the painting is mostly shadowed in darkness since the cliff is high, and the light is emanating from the background. A waterfall, seen originating from the far distant mountains, makes its way down into a patch of lime-green pasture, then fuses into a white lake, and finally becomes anew, a chaotic waterfall(rocks interfere its smooth passage), separating the latter cliff with a more distant cliff in the center. At the immediate bottom-center of the foreground appears a flat land which runs from the center and slowly ascends into a cliff as it travels to the right. Green bushes, rough orange rocks, and pine trees are scattered throughout this piece of land. Since this section of the painting is at a lower level as opposed to the left cliff, the light is more evidently being exposed around the edges of the land, rocks, and trees. Although the atmosphere of the landscape is a chilly one, highlights of a warm light make this scene seem to take place around…

This seems to the main focal point as the suns rays illuminate it and is essentially in the foreground of the painting. The background of this painting seems to be gloomy and fading in the distance, which gives of a sort of atmospheric perspective. The radiated waves filled with outstanding colors of white, turquoise and greens are brought to life by showing motion through their shapes. It really grasps the eyes of the beholder because the white color on the waves appear like lightening, adding to the story in this painting of two men battling the storm all around them. This painting also really catches your attention on how Wiley created such a bright luminous area in the foreground of the painting and bordered the painting in a dark, gloomy, muddy aura.…

When one hears the term Impressionism or Earth Art, one can already presume and expect what sort of depiction each movement would present without having any prior knowledge of them. Impressionism, which began in the 1870’s, often depicted scenes and the artists’ impression of nature and, modest yet vivacious quarters of Paris. Now almost exactly one hundred years later, a completely new form of art takes the place of the prior paintings of those subject matters, actually inside –called Earth Art.…

The bold curved lines of the sky flow directly into the figure and endure to form the body of the individual. Van Gogh uses long, heavy yet equal brushstrokes to express feelings and motion. Motion is the main element in this painting Vertical lines such as the tree and church tower delicately breaks up the composition without withdrawing from the powerful night sky. Van Gogh's use of white and yellow creates a twisting result and draws attention to the sky. And the usage of color to send emotion. Munch also used colors that were contrast between hot and cold colors, contrast of complimentary. By using artless forms, Munch is able to force his viewers to focus on the emotions that the sight and subject secrete rather than simply viewing an exact picture of one particular scene. The cautious use of balance also helps the viewers understand the indirect consequence of The Scream. Munch placed the unpleasant figure in the focal point and attains a sense of balance by inserting two smaller figures who are walking into the scorching sunset in the distance on the left side and by creating a dominant arch in the upper right hand corner. But the focal point created by Van Gogh is the tree-like structure projecting out on the bottom…

Throughout the years, Claude Monet’s Impression, Sunrise has been celebrated as the quintessential symbol of the Impressionist Movement. This renowned work of art which illustrates a view of the port of Le Havre in north-western France is considered to be one of Monet’s “most poetic expressions” of his engagement with France’s revitalization efforts after the Franco-Prussian War.[1] Unlike other artworks of the time, the subject matter and specific painting techniques evident in Impression, Sunrise seek to transcribe the feelings initiated by a scene rather than simply rendering the details of a particular landscape. This act of expressing an individual’s perception of nature was a key characteristic and goal of Impressionist art, and is a common motif found in Monet’s paintings. While Impression, Sunrise and Monet’s artistic technique fell under harsh criticism at their outset, Monet’s masterpiece gave birth to a new movement and created a revolution in the world of art.…
