I believe athletes should skip college because some it’s their life so it should be their choice. If you were athletic enough to be a professional straight out of high school you wouldn’t want to go to college and risk having an injury that could end your career. So why should all the people athletic enough.
There are many reasons why high school athletes should be able to go straight to the Pros and skip college.Players could have an advantage if they started their professional career early. Plus they would be making money. Some of their skills could benefit since they would be around professional players. They wouldn’t have any practice restrictions so they could improve their game even more. These athletes not going to college would lower the risk of injury for them, playing in college has derailed many promising athlete’s careers. Such as Kevin Ware’s gruesome leg fracture or Willis McGahee receiving a helmet to the knee. If tennis players and golfers are able turn pro early so should basketball players There also are cons of high school athletes skipping college. According to Fred Carter, a NBA analyst for ESPN, …show more content…
“Most kids coming out of high school lack physical and mental maturity.” “There is a lot of bad elements out there for the young kids.”"A young high school kid usually doesn't realize how hard he has to work in the NBA and is left shell-shocked. He's been Big Man On Campus in high school, and suddenly he isn't the biggest, strongest or fastest anymore. It's a huge adjustment." People think athletes shouldn’t be able to skip college and go to the pros.According to David Minster, Maroon News staff member"High school athletes should not be allowed to skip college to go professional. While there are a handful of high school athletes with the skills to thrive in a professional environment, the negatives of foregoing college outweigh the positives. However, by going to college, these athletes earn a higher level of education that could come in handy should they either get injured or bust. In addition, transitioning from high school sports is far too large of a jump for athletes. Participating in college sports is the perfect stepping stone for athletes trying to go pro.”If the athletes get amazing coaching that can further advance their abilities to get them ready for the pros. They don't have to pay thousands of dollars like Olympic athletes to train..They learn about the way they need to be eating in order to excel in the professional level.According to NCAA.org ,"Student-athletes have access to cafeteria “training tables” on campus. In addition, some schools hire nutritionists and dieticians to work with each individual student-athlete." It should be these athletes choice to become a professional or go to college, not the people who aren’t playing the sport.
One year in college isn’t going to do very much for them plus they will have to pay for college so they would be in debt. So why make them do something you wouldn’t want to do if you were in their shoes?
