This logic is extremely flawed for many of the reasons discussed earlier. The athletes cannot get the same value out of the education because of the already intense time commitment to the sport that has given them the opportunity to be in school. The idea that a college education is payment would have to assume that a college degree always pays off in the long run. In reality, the glut of bachelor degrees entering the workforce is lessening their value. Without actually experiencing the class room and receiving the right networking and advising opportunities, it cannot be assumed that the degree is worth the athlete’s time. Especially considering that the time spent in college could be a player losing money available by playing in the professional leagues. The idea that an education is worth to a player what a professional salary would be seems to be a naïve view. While a cash payment may not solve the problems of a college athlete, and it may perpetuate some economic issues, payment is what these players are entitled to because they are the symbols that fill the stadiums across national campuses. Even with a full scholarship an athlete may have to pay between $8,000 to $12,000 more than the allotted amount due to travel and other needs. Assuming that the education itself, along with the opportunities and athletic department support, is payment enough, is assuming that those…

The National basketball association is the worlds premiere basketballs association. Basketball players from around the world come to showcase their talent on the NBA’s stage. The sport of basketball is played by people of all ages, sexes, and races especially the youth. The youth of all nations have grown found to the sport of basketball and the NBA has inspired many young kids to follow their dreams and become NBA players as they hope to win NBA championships and and NBA honors such as the most valuable player award(MVP). In the past the NBA has drafted exceptional high school players into the league but that has changed as the NBA modified their regulations to say for all draft picks to be at least 19 years of age and have spent a year out of high school. This regulation directly sends high school players to at least a year of college meaning a year away from their dreams of being a NBA player. From their controversy arises as the question is asked should the NBA draft high school players? I say no I believe the NBA should not draft high school, however there are pros and cons to both sides of the argument and there are NBA players that are proven examples of both sides of the argument.…
In the article that I read I would have to agree with the author. College players should be paid, just because some of them get free education don’t mean that they shouldn’t get paid. College players are just like professional players there’s really no difference now. College athletes bring in more money than the professionals.…
In my opinion, I believe that college should not allow degrees in sports because it can limit job opportunities. Scholarships should only be use to recruit players. Then they should search for a backup plan, and those classes could be used to boost an athletes GPA to keep their eligibility for playing their…
Many people believe there is no need for an education because of the money that is made by professional athletes. They are indeed right. The average athlete earns an annual salary of $3.3million. The problems are that many professional athlete are either bankrupt or in jail, mostly because of impulse control disorders that cause millions of dollars to disappear. There is no wonder as to 78% of NFL players going broke within 2 years and 60% of NBA players are broke within 5 years of their retirement. Are they a product of their environment? Want to bet?…
They can learn how to manage money. If they get paid, they would learn in what to waste their money. When should college turn pro? Not until he has earned all he can in college as an amateur- Will Rogers. College athletes should be paid, so they can learn how to mange the money.…
There have been ongoing arguments over the past decade of whether or not college athletes should be paid to play. Many argue that they do not have time to get real jobs because the requirements for the sport that they participate in are far too demanding. Others cite that these athletes are provided full scholarships to attend the schools at which they are playing the sport. However regardless of the argument, I still feel that college athletes should not be paid to play.…
In every sport there’s always that one guy, the one who was born to play, the one the entire team looks for when they need a win. The Los Angeles Lakers have Kobe Bryant and now Dwight Howard, the Miami Heat have Lebron James, and the Milwaukee Bucks have Brandon Jennings. There have been these athletes and many more who fit into that category. These three men are in an elite group of their own, each of them didn’t attend a single class in college, and as a matter of fact they didn’t play a single minute of college basketball. Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Brandon Jennings skipped college on their road to stardom in the NBA. Teens in professional sports have come in all shapes and sizes, and it has been a debated topic for many years. The debate dates back to when basketball superstar Wilt Chamberlain attempted to forgo his senior year of college to enter the NBA draft. Some of these players have turned out to be busts, others hall of famers. Some are the face of the franchise and others end up quitting early. Teens should be able to play in professional sports because restrictions are not put on ages for other jobs, or even other sports, these talented kids should be able to play with the bigger and better competition, all while avoiding getting hurt by other players.…
I believe athletes should skip college because some it’s their life so it should be their choice. If you were athletic enough to be a professional straight out of high school you wouldn’t want to go to college and risk having an injury that could end your career. So why should all the people athletic enough.…
Should you only reward youth athletes who earn their trophies? Participation trophies the easy way out. Participation trophies not only harm youth athletes, nut are a waste of money in youth organizations. Giving participation trophies decreases motivation. It is ok to give participation awards to 6-8 year old's, but not to older youth athletes. Participation trophies should not be given because it teaches kids that you can get an award for just showing up. According to the "Trophies for All" youth athletes are being rewarded with participation trophies.…
They get a scholarship to play their sport but they have to chose what job field they want to do incase going pro don’t workout. By them playing football their education is basically free with a scholarship and that is how they will receive a real job and get paid.…
Should athletes be able to go pro before finishing college? This topic is widely debated among citizens across the United States. The answer that is commonly regarded as the safe choice is to finish school then go pro. If an athlete were to choose this choice the benefits would clearly outweigh the risks. The big benefits would be that you will have a fall back and you will be able to get a higher pay in the pros. The only risk of waiting is injury in the final extra season played to graduate.…

A big part of college is athletics. For some schools its all about the team. Some even choose to attend a school based on their sport of choice. Many students would not even be in college were it not for athletic scholarships. But should colleges offer athletic schlarships? Looking from both view points there are many reasons why colleges should offer athletic scholarships such as diversifying the school and giving somone a chance who wouldnt normally have one. From the viewpoint that they shouldn't…
