Should All School Pupils Be Made to Learn at Least One Foreign Language?
Should all school pupils be made to learn at least one foreign language?
Opinions.
1-it's difficult to support the theory all children should learn a foreign language when most appear to be so woefully inadequate in their native tongue. http://www.helium.com/debates/124525-should-all-school-pupils-be-made-to-learn-at-least-one-foreign-language 2-Foreign languages are important for the individual pupil. Employers value people who are able to speak more than one language. Learning a language will therefore help students get good jobs when they are older. It will also increase their understanding of other cultures. http://www.idebate.org/debatabase/topic_details.php?topicID=524 3-it is also important for English-speakers to learn foreign languages, since not everyone speaks English. And it is polite to be able to speak some of another person’s language. Governments should try to promote economic growth. Since languages are important for the economy, governments should make all young people learn them.

FACTS,

Many people seem to forget that the purpose of schooling is to “educate students so that they have choices when they graduate” (Bilingual Education Is Necessary). By allowing students the option to learn another language, they are broadening the students choices for their future occupations. Furthermore by adding language classes, the school will also benefit from the enriched staff resources. Teachers teaching other languages will “bring added knowledge and teaching and managing strategies” (Bilingual Education Is Necessary) which will help multicultural schools. Not only will these teachers assist the school, they will be able to connect with certain students more than other teachers.
