Ride with the Devil’s take on the civil war in comparison with the text version was fairly similar, although the text had more events and information that were not introduce in the movie. Ride with the Devil attention to detail to the Reconstruction Era is captured well with the use of language, the setting, and the actors. The movie gave the audience a inside visual look of the civil war and their personal matters such the friendship bonds that were created, the lost people faced ,the love they developed and more. The America: A Narrative history text book gave the readers the outlook of the civil war, the aftermath, the challenges that were faced and more. Ride with the Devil shows how northerners and southerners had little to no respect towards each other. These two sides were in constant battle with one another which cost many lives and destroyed property .When jack Bull hears of the news that his father has been killed by a union soldier Jack bull, Jake Roedel and the others take action to fight back. Many women lost their sons and husband in the war leaving them a widow. The movie shows disturbing graphic of many wounded soldiers and burning of buildings, which is also read in descriptive detail in the text as
The way he was treated differed from other characters. In Ride with the Devil most people did not see Holt for the man that he was rather saw him by the color of his skin. Holt gave much of his respect to George Clyde for his freedom and George showed respect to Holt in return. Two characters I believe changed their views towards Holt were Jake Roedel and Sue lee. Their approach with Holt differed though out the movie when they started to build a relationship with Holt. Jake started to address Holt by His name and his attitude change towards him. Jake and Holt develop a closer bond with each other. Sue lee showed more hospitality and kindness for
