The two images I chose for the analysis paper are Martini, Simone and Lippo Memmi, Annunciation with Saints Ansanus and Margherita (1333) and Brunelleschi, Filippo, Dome of Florence Cathedral (1420-36). The reason I chose these are because they relate to the Catholic religion in different ways. The Annunciation with Saints Ansanus and Margherita was the beginning of the Catholic art during the Gothic time period while the Dome of Florence Cathedral was not only a masterpiece of artwork it was also a breakthrough for the construction during that time and for the rest of history.…
2- The pro-Reggio approach believed that the environment is considered as a teacher. Within the Reggio Emilia schools, the teachers are very concerned about what their school environments teach children. Reggio teachers think that…
The Renaissance inspired many artist’s interest in the individual’s experience of the world, specifically Giotto and Piero della Francesca. Some key events that shaped the interest of the individual include the positive changes in the political, religious and social outlook in Italy, more freedom with how people thought and viewed the world and the desire for more realistic artworks. The turmoil in the Catholic Church, specifically the reformation in Germany, Rise of Franciscans and the Dominican orders, all helped form the foundations of Renaissance art. A lot of complicated circumstances that also marked the end of the Medieval period, and the beginning of a new era, the ‘rebirth’ of classical art.…

With the Holy Roman Empire and all this church rubble going around, I'm sure the Italians wanted stability and comfort. Comfort is very much so in the mind of the beholder, and I suppose artwork and innovation was comfortable to them in those times of war. Staring at the beautiful artwork of Michelangelo would definitely motivate me, personally.…
A majority of history is documented using paintings, sculptures, and ancient writings, however the value of the arts in present day seems to be diminishing more each year. From as early as 500 BCE, art has been either destroyed and repurposed to create new art, or for war ammunition. The purpose of this essay is to show the link between the repurposing bronze statues and schools cutting art and design programs from schools, as well as the drastic consequences of doing so.…
In educational terms the northern Italian town of Reggio Emilia has a firmly established worldwide reputation for forward thinking and excellence in its approach to early childhood education. North American and Scandinavian educators have long recognised the importance of the continuing educational development that is taking place in the Reggio model, and there is much about the approach that is of interest to educators in Scotland. It is a socio-constructivist model. That is, it is influenced by the theory of Lev Vygotsky, which states that children (and adults) co-construct their theories and knowledge through the…
Loris Malaguzzi (1920-1994) founded the 'Reggio Emilia' approach at a city in northern Italy called Reggio Emilia. The 'Reggio' approach was developed for municipal child-care and education programs serving children below six. The approach requires children to be seen as competent, resourceful, curious, imaginative, inventive and possess a desire to interact and communicate with others.…
The views on children and their development and learning have evolved throughout history. In the 1600’s children were thought to need harsh religious teaching, strict guidance of virtues and morals. John Locke and Johann Amos Comenius, argued against the harsh educational theories. During the 1700’s the view on children shifted to a more romantic view, more harmonious methods of teaching. More playtimes was introduced, as was the introduction of hands on experiences. At that time Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi valued Mothers as a child’s first teacher.…
Reggio Emilia is in the northern regions of Italy. They have an approach which is based on creative thinking, exploration and discovery, free play, following what the children are interested in, valuing and encouraging all the ways that children express themselves, asking children to talk about their ideas and asking children to re-visit their ideas. The schools in Reggio Emilia are not following the government’s curriculum; this allows the children to express themselves rather than just sitting down at a table and doing things which they are meant to be learning. They will learn a variety of skills by not following a curriculum. The children will be interested in what they do everyday as it won’t just be sitting in a classroom day after day but the activities will differ everyday.…
In the Thirteenth Century, Italy was beginning to flourish with art preceding the Renaissance. Gothic styled cathedrals dominated the Italian City-states, and more and more artists were being commissioned to fill the cathedrals with their works. One of the most influential sculptors of this time was Nicola Pisano and his most famous work; the Pulpit of the Pisa Baptistery. It was Nicola Pisano’s innovative style that began a unique style that was to become well known throughout the rest of Italy durring the Renaissance.…
In its development of a Gothic style, Italy stood apart from the rest of Europe. While in most European countries’ artists imitated the architectural styles that derived from northern France, however that was not the case in Italy. This was due to both geographic and geologic factors. Italy’s arts were heavily influenced with classical antiquity and Byzantine Constantinople more than in countries north of the Alp Mountains. In addition, the Italian architectural style was decisively affected buy the fact that brick and not stone was the most common building material and that marble was the most common decorative material.…

There is also the country’s enormous cultural legacy: Tuscany alone has more classified historical monuments than any country in the world; there are considerable remnants of the Roman Empire all over the country, notably in Rome itself; and every region retains its own relics of an artistic tradition generally acknowledged to be among the world’s richest. Yet if all…
