Self-Reflection and Learning Agenda Paper
BACKGROUND: Describe your professional Identity: I am a dedicated person to the game of many sports and teaching. I have taught several different sports and also have been well trained in a classroom setting. Working with children of all ages, I have 8 years of coaching football, 4 years of basketball, 12 years of softball with private lessons as well and 3 years’ experience working with special needs students in a classroom. I have a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and graduated with honors in that field. I also obtained a teaching credential in Kinesiology but wanted to pursue more in special; education. I believe that education is the way to get somewhere in life, that is why I am continuing my education and getting my Master’s Degree. I like the feeling of teaching and knowing that the students will feel good about them self and have the confidence to approach anything in life due to the positive influence that I have taught them.
What about the field of special education interests you?
For me, it’s the love the students have towards you and the challenges you are faced with. Working with these types of students is very challenging, but I enjoy that. They are very much the underdog as far as systems go and as far as outcomes after school are concerned. So, to get in there and work with a group like this is progress that a person can make, or progress you can see a student make is very rewarding. We can be very creative, which is very attractive. We can come up with things that no one has come up with before. And over all, I think it is the challenges; the rewards come from making progress where no one else has been able to make progress before, and then having the students see the possibilities.
What motivated you to apply to this program?
The love for the kids is what motivated me the most but also the demand for male teachers in the moderate/ severe aspect. These students need a strong

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

I was inspired to work within the field of education by several individuals within my family that have gone on and receive bachelor’s degrees, masters and even doctoral degrees. That has given me the drive to become a teacher; an African-American male teacher who did not have a good up-bringing and who is able to make a difference for those that maybe walking down the same path as I did. Furthermore, I believe I belong here at Bethune-Cookman University because it has been invested within me and I am a diamond…

Reflection allows an individual to identify the reasons or purpose of understanding the outcome of a particular situation in depth in term of emotions on thought and feeling on the topic area. In addition, Reflection is something that we do implicitly as part of being human, underpinning our identities through a process of negotiation between our sense of self and our experiences of others (Demetriou, 2000, p.210). Therefore, I have implemented this quote in my professional and personal goals I wanted and have achieved thought-out the process of the module. I have made continues effort in building my confidence in situations that I have felt uncomfortable in.…

I am excited to start my career transition to education. I had previously been working professionally in business, but feel a call to work with children and believe teaching is the best way to fulfill my passion and purpose. Volunteering for youth causes has always been a passion of mine, but I had always viewed that passion as a separate entity to my professional career. After four years of working in corporate environments and not feeling that I am making a positive impact on the world, I have decided to answer my calling and make my passion a career. Everyone’s journey is different and my decision to make the transition to education, was not a whimsical resolution. I believe that education is the key to making the world a better place. I want to be able to inspire and effect the lives of students, the way my life was affected by my teachers.…

A quote from Anthony J. D’Angelo says, “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” I have such a strong passion for receiving my masters in special education because I thrive to learn more and to possess the knowledge and information to educate people about things they may not know. It is my hope to use this passion to achieve success in not only my career, but in my personal life as well. Teachers and school districts, now more than ever before, have such a commitment and responsibility to teaching…

I have always loved children. I also strongly care about those who less fortunate than I am and those who struggle with daily hardships. Because of this, it seems only logically that I would want to teach students with disabilities. In today's society, those who are mentally or physically different are frowned upon and deemed inferior. However, students with disabilities are not something to be ashamed of or taken lightly. Students with disabilities should not have to face this hardship alone. Disabilities can easily be overcome with the proper love, care and instruction that only a special education teacher can provide. By becoming a special education teacher, I will have the humbling opportunity to teach these students to the best of my ability. I will give them the support, patience and care they deserve. By encouraging these students and believing in them, I will give them the chance to believe in themselves. I will encourage them the face their disabilities and hardships they will face and tackle them head on.…
