Grade Upper Elementary (3) Time 45 minutes Objectives Students will learn the importance of writing clear and accurate procedures write a procedure for making a PBJ samdwih Materials 1 loaf bread 1 jar peanut butter 1 jar jelly paper plates Knife, spoon Standard clean-up equipment Find out if any students have allergies to peanuts before beginning. Introduction Review with students the steps of the scientific method as they have studied them. Focus on the importance of the experiment and the set of directions for how to do the experiment, called the procedure. One of the reasons i he procedure is important is because other scientists must be able to do the same experiment in the same way to see if they get the same results. Today they will be writing procedures for a very important, very difficult task. Procedure 1. The problem Assign students to working pairs. Explain to students that you (the instructor) have just arrived on this planet. You have discovered the greatest thing in the entire universe and want to take it back to your planet, but dont know how to make it, so you need their help. They will work in pairs to write the procedure, the set of directions, for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Show them the materials that you have to work with - a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly, and a knife. Give students 10 minutes to work on writing the procedure. 2. Making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich At the end of the time, have volunteers read the directions they have written, as you follow them to the letter. Be extremely literal, for example if they say, put the peanut butter on the bread as their first step, place the unopened jar of peanut butter on the unopened loaf of bread. If they say, open the peanut butter, struggle with pulling the cap off. Have students verbally change directions to make them more precise as you go along. Always give the person who gave you the directions the first crack at

In one of the week 3 discussion questions we discussed the algorithm that would be required to make a peanut butter sandwich. In this CheckPoint you will need to take that one step further and create a program design to make a peanut butter sandwiches. Below you will find a partial program design; you need to complete it by adding the pseudocode in the required areas. You need to add one repetition (loop) control structure and one decision control to complete the program design. The user will decide how many sandwiches are made; this is where the loop will be used. The user will decide if the sandwich includes jelly, and, if it does, what flavor of jelly; to keep it simple we are only allowing grape or strawberry jelly.…

In this Lab the students were required to do several tests and measurements and then convert these units into other units. There were five tests in all. The first test was measuring the average of three broad jumps in centimeters then find out how many jumps it would take to travel one mile. The second test involved measuring a candy bar (for my group we used a snickers bar) then finding out how many snickers bars end to end it would take to wrap around the equator of the earth. For the third measurement we had to find out how many tootsie rolls were equivalent to a five pound tootsie roll. For the next test we had to find how long it took in hours to get to the center of a tootsie pop. For the final test we had to calculate our speed in mph then find out how many days it would take to get from Indianapolis to Chicago if you only walked five hours a day. The materials we used were a gram scale, tootsie roll, tootsie pop, snickers bar, and a meter stick.…

In Spain during the whole eastern period The Flagellants used conical hats, white robes and mask were used for discipline in a sexual act. But in the 1860s in the United States it did not have the same use or meaning. The Ku Klux Klan-also known as the KKK, an organization based on white supremacy and hatred for any other race mainly African-American. The KKK disseminated fear and terror among other races and African- American population, they would usually attack at night with their faces covered claiming to ghosts of the confederate’s soldiers. In the beginning the kkk terrorized small towns where everyone knew each other .But as African-Americans started to spread throughout the united states and becoming serious roles in society like political leaders and religion leaders such as Malcolm X, Martin Luther king jr, Rose Park etc…the kkk stared to organizing political riots and massacres of entire black families. By the 1880s the KKK declined but raised again in the late 1990s , when the burning cross appeared again due to the released of a film named “ The Birth of a Nation” by Leo Frank , a Jewish business man(The Mississippi Burning trial 73).Along with the KKK other situation happen during the post-war period it was the sharecroppers. After the civil war, slaved used a method called sharecropping to pay their debts and make extra money. Also plantation owners would lend them money for food and utensils and they would also give them a cabin they can use to live in. Since owners borrow some money from the bank, they would benefit from the interest rate they charged the slave. The plantation owners dislike the methods because they won’t have the net percentage of benefits but needed money before the plantation would go into bankruptcy.…
