As an advocate for transgender rights, Mock not only wrote the book Redefining Realness, but launched the Twitter campaign #GirlsLikeUs which connected all willing trans women across every aspect: color, age, sexual identities, and class. “I want us to be fully ourselves, and hopefully in the process of sharing our most authentic selves, we’ll find like-minded sisters whom we can embrace and love and connect with because it’s only in our connecting that we will be more powerful and ensure that our voices and our lives and our struggles and joys matter.” says Mock, on why she started #GirlsLikeUs. “One hashtag, label, group or person cannot be everything for everyone. But it can be something for some.
