Railroad Crossing Research Paper
There are many rules and safety precautions that should be followed when interacting with railroad crossings. The number one rule is to always use caution when approaching and crossing railroads. It is important when you first arrive at a railroad crossing to always slow down and pay attention to your surroundings. If you come to a stop at a railroad crossing you must be at least 15 feet from the nearest rail, and if you intend to park near a railroad crossing, you must be at least 50 feet from it. It is extremely important to understand that a train has the right of way in any situation.
Whether you are a car, ambulance, police officer, or pedestrian, you must stop for the train. As the amount of drivers increase many train related accidents and deaths occur more frequently due

Another common mistake in people who are hit by trains is they fail to recognize how fast a train is really moving. The front of the train is shaped like an optical allusion, and since they are so big, they seem to be traveling at a much slower speed. However, they are not. Most moving trains travel at at least 55 mph.
There are also many warning devices that are put up to help drivers while crossing a railroad track. Usually, there are signs on the road indicating that a railroad crossing is coming up. Also, if there is a train coming, there will be flashing lights and often a gate will come down. In these cases you should never cross the track or go around the gate. If you think that the lights might be broken it is important to make sure that you have a clear line of sight down both sides of the track because trains can come from either direction at any time. If your car happens to stall in the middle of a train track, get out of the vehicle and call law enforcement. Make sure that you are standing a very clear distance from the track because the train could potentially push the car into you. When crossing a track at night, do not assume the coast is clear because

It is vital that you make sure that you can hear clearly because trains will honk their horns when they are nearing a railroad crossing which can give you an advanced warning of a train's arrival, and you should also pay attention to any lights near the tracks. If any lights are flashing you must stop and wait for the train to pass. If the lights are likely to be broken, you may only cross if you have a view 1 mile long down both directions of track. One of the most important guidelines set forth by the handbook is that you can not go through or around any gates or barriers at a railroad crossing. If you do, you are very likely to be hit by a train.…

Look both ways before you cross the street, right? Utah state law states “A pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point… shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles on the roadway.” and “a pedestrian may not cross at any place except in a marked crosswalk.”¬¬a This is also known as the law against jaywalking. Each state has different legislature regarding this topic but the rule is generalized throughout the United States, don’t cross unless at a crosswalk. This law was created to protect pedestrians and drivers from causing unnecessary accidents. The underlying assumption here is that human naturally don’t care about anyone except for themselves. If they want to walk somewhere then they will just walk whenever and wherever they want to. Essentially, all humans are selfish and unaware of others around them or their needs. If not for this law, people would walk at random places and random times causing a traffic jam for any car trying to pass, or for a speeding car to hit a crossing pedestrian.…

I traveled once by that train. At first I could not believe that a train (in this age) could go so slowly. I had to put up with it. The train moved at a snail’s pace and one could almost get down and get back on it. I did not try it because it was not safe for such foolhardy experiments.…
