Unit 502: Promote Professional Development OUTCOME 1
1.1 Explain the importance of continually improving knowledge and practice
1.1 – it is important for me to continually improving my knowledge, and ensure that I am aware of, and follow, the current health & social care standards, legislation, and guidelines for good practice. Learning new skills and refreshing training enables me to progress, and achieve within my career and working practices.
Personal development benefits me, but also Company, and the young people in my care.
The focus of training tends to be on the staff group, to ensure that all recommendations and standards are achieved.
CPD is important for my career, increases my employability, and helps me progress and gain promotion within my field.
As an Assistant Manager, I am responsible for others: Staff, young people, visitors that come on site etc so it is paramount that I am knowledgeable in all areas of management, to enable me to effective in my role.
1.2 Analyse potential barriers to professional development
1.2 - Potential barriers to CPD could include:
Organisational barriers:
• Poor communication
• Lack of resources or budget
• Staff shortages,
• No encouragement from my manager
• No training opportunities within an organisation or No time to train
• Inadequate supervision or appraisal systems within an organisation
Personal Barriers:
• Low self-esteem to achieve or progress
• Being over confident or stubborn (unwilling to admit training is required)
• Transport problems
• Possible Language barriers
• Childcare issues (when training is arranged childcare not available)
• Health problems
• Conflicting appointments (unable to attend due to meetings!)

    1.1 An understanding of the positive values of equality, respect for diversity and inclusion in care work is paramount and the importance of it never underestimated. Circumstances, which bring individuals into contact with support workers/carers by very nature, would suggest that the recipients of that care are likely to be vulnerable in one way or another.
