Q1. Although being the most centralised zones in a city, the central business district and the inner-mixed zone can be compared and contrasted in terms of land use characteristics and functions. Due to their high accessibility, land value and centripetal forces, these zones share functions that both draw the public and commercial interest into them, and create competition for prime land between business and some residential functions. To compare both zones, the accessibility of the CBD and the IMZ is a major similarity as all major freeways like the Mitchell, Graham Farmer and Kwinana run through these zones, and the Albany and Stirling Highways must pass through here to reach the CBD, hence making both zones highly accessible.…

    4. Concentric Circle – describes urban community as a set of nested rings of mostly residential diversity at increasing distances in all directions from CBD fringe. Sector – high rent residential areas are dominant in city expansion and grow outward from the city center along major transportation routes (streetcar, elevated railroad, suburban commuter routes). As city grows, high income groups move to new homes on outside of center, middle class clusters around the rich, and poor at districts adjacent to areas of industry and associated transportation (freight railroads). Multiple-Nuclei – large cities developed by peripheral spread from several nodes of growth; retail district needs accessibility, port needs waterfront site, industry needs rails.…

It stands that both Council and the planning department did not listen to the needs of the people who live in the community. This effectively struck down the place-making agency which the members of the community should have in their community. The 500 community members who live in the area were not effectively consulted. Instead, the goals of the city’s bureaucrats which are Euclidean and space focused became the priority. In a way, this works against the very progress planning has made to become a less scientific/modernist profession because people’s needs and perspectives were put on…

For all these problems, city planners have attempted potential solutions, each with varying degrees of success. Cities including London, Manila and Mumbai have several of the aforementioned problems, and have each tried their own potential solutions. Pinnacle Peak Hiking Area is a multipurpose, exercise trail used for both hiking and equestrians. It is a 1.75 mile one-way trail in Rio Verde, Arizona with breathtaking views of the Sonoran Desert from every direction. Because the trail is not a loop, there is a lot of traffic on the trail, especially during the fall and winter seasons and on weekends. Families specifically enjoy this trail because there is no way for their children to get lost; there is one way in and one way out, no confusing side trails for anyone to take. There are a few areas where people are tempted to cut corners when there is a lot of traffic on the trail. This is quite dangerous as the entire trail is up a mountain and someone could very easily slip and fall. To help prevent people from cutting corners, the management has strategically laid rocks and logs along certain corners so it is a lot harder for people to step outside these boundaries.…
