Altruism and Prosocial Behavior Examine the concept of altruism and altruistic behavior. What does it mean for someone to behave altruistically? What is gained from this action, and how does it differ from egoistic behavior? What are some reasons why people would want to help one another, without regard for personal gain or benefit? In addition, explain the bystander effect. If we all have a genuine desire to help one another, why is the effect so common? How can we prevent it from occurring? Choose a college that has an environment you'd enjoy exploring. In addition to a beautiful campus, your school should be in a city or town that you would enjoy exploring.     Society in general would help one in need to relieve stress or because it is a good thing or a kind thing to do for someone (Cherry, n.d). Cherry (n.d), show that people do behave altruistic for selfish reason. However, it is possible for altruism to exist in this world (Cherry, n.d). When looking at the biological reason, people usually only help family members because they have to since it’s their own family. People should always help their family because they are blood relatives and it is the right thing to do.
