Playing by the rules and teaching good technique will keep the players safe as possible. The best way to prevent concussions are obviously by the head gear. There is a new helmet that is forsure a safer helmet to use for the NFL. The NFL put a head health Challenge and the VICIS helmet was a winner of it.
The NFL is spending 60 million dollars on improving brain injuries with better technology. Sam Browd was a founder of the VICIS and won the New head health Challenge. This helmet protects the brain unlike the standard helmets that protects against skull fractures. This helmet is a more padded helmet that absorbs contact from blows instead of bounces your head around in the helmet. The symptoms of CTE include memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, impulse control problems, aggression, depression, anxiety, suicidality, parkinsonism, and, eventually, progressive dementia. The Brain does not moves with the skull so when the head takes and impact then the brain slams into the skull which causes

Since the creation of the NFL, there have been significant modifications in the game rules, the type of equipment that players wear, and the sideline assessment to determine severe contact injuries. Despite all these changes, the concussion epidemic is still growing. This paper aimed to look at a bunch of different factor’s effectiveness in decreasing the amount and severity of concussions, thereby decreasing the risk of developing CTE. The first research question proposed was to look how competent helmets are at preventing concussions from occurring and preventing the development of CTE. Results show that helmets are very effective at protecting the skull from fractures but have no way of preventing the brain from moving back and forth inside this cavity.…

After contacting Bobak Abdolmohammadi, research assistant at the Boston University CTE Center, of the brain samples donated to the center, around eighty percent are of former football players. His opinion echoes, based upon the findings at BU, that it is the cumulative exposure to repetitive head impacts that is most likely the main explanation behind CTE. He believes it is clear that something must be done to help solve this issue at the basic foundational level. In conclusion, the injury rate in the sport of football in relation to a child/adolescent’s vulnerability to physical injury creates a very precarious situation for a child participating in tackle football. With a high risk of physical injury for a child and the injury rate of football, those constant injuries can develop into overuse injuries like concussions.…

The New York Times has also stated that NFL players are eight times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s or dementia than the general population. The NFL has come across a rise in concussions over the past decade. Over the past three seasons there have been over 690 recorded concussions throughout the league. Not only are current players being affected, but so are retired players. 87 of 91 deceased NFL players were found to have Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, after years of concussions and hits to the head during their NFL careers. There is no absolute way to prevent a concussion but the National Football League is making new rules and training their referees in ways to help prevent a concussion in their players. “The league donated $1 million to Boston University's Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy research into the long-term effects of repetitive brain trauma in athletes, particularly in football players. The NFL was the first sports league to financially support that research at the school,” (Farmer par. 26). They are funding money to research facilities and researchers to help find a better way to prevent or reduce the causes and effects of concussions. They are doing more than just research but they are also getting their referees training to watch for head-on collisions and players showing symptoms of a concussion. “NFL referees will take on more responsibility this season to protect players from helmet-first hits to their heads and necks,” (NFL.com Wire par. 1). Not only are they watching for head on hits but also…

Concussions cause the dangerous disease CTE that has already claimed the lives of many athletes in the NFL and in other sports. We are doing research on CTE but a lot more needs to be done. If the NFL is going to be safer they need to relinquish all of their information and research on player brain injuries. Some good things are being done to rule changes to make the game safer, but it is still not enough. There is a fine line however between changing rules and changing the game, which the NFL will have to navigate carefully. One of the better answers to these brain injuries is to improve the helmet protecting the head. Many developers have made ingenious new ideas to combat the concussion epidemic in football. It is up to the NFL to adopt the new innovations to the football helmet to drastically improve player safety. A person’s brain is the most important part of the body. It just makes sense to want to protect it as much as possible. As the public becomes more aware of the dangers football has on a player’s brain people may reconsider playing football. If the NFL is going to have a future, they must make their game safer. If people see less players effected by concussions on TV public perception of football will improve. Something clearly needs to be done to combat these serious health problems facing current and past NFL…

The NFL (National football league), a standout amongst the most watched games on the planet and is famous for the aggressiveness of the game. This sport is played by two groups of 11 players each on a rectangular, 100-yard-long field with objective lines and goal posts at either end, the objective being to pick up ownership of a ball and propel it in running or passing plays over the rival's objective line or kick it through the air between the adversary's goalposts. Despite the fact that this game is generally supported by the public it seems to come with the dangers of wounds and injuries. One of the most common injuries in the game is when a player his hit with a violent shock to the head resulting in a wound on the brain. This injury has…

POW!! CRACK!! I just attempted to deliver a key block on a 240lb linebacker in order for my quarterback to score a touchdown. Our helmets collided. I was dizzy, the lights got brighter, and my head was pounding; I could have sworn I had a concussion. On the sideline a teammate said I’d be fine and that I was going to have the game of a lifetime. I strapped my helmet back up and went back onto the field. I actually did have that game of lifetime, but at what cost? The football helmet is associated with strength and toughness, and so are the men who wear them. The helmet is not there to protect strength and toughness; it is there to protect something much more fragile- the brain. Can the technology of the helmets keep up with each generation of bigger, faster, and harder hitting players and prevent concussions?…

In the concussion protocol there are eight sections on game day management of concussions, outlines for tests a player must pass in order to play, potential concussion signs/ symptoms, and the NFL sideline concussion assessment. (Management of concussions) With the more strict concussion protocol this could be significantly reduced. The concussion protocol will also prevent players from coming back before their concussion has completely gone away. Before the league began taking concussions seriously this was a common problem, leading to more serious head injuries. Along with making hits to the head and neck area these rules and guidelines have the potential to prevent repeated head injuries and make the game safer for the…

American football has been named the most watched sport in the nation and continues to grow in popularity. There is something about the thrill of watching your favorite team score touchdowns and win championship games that makes watching football a nationwide form of entertainment. Beyond all of the wins and losses however are the many injuries that often occur in every game. Broken arms, legs and shoulders are only minimal injuries compared to the, often over-looked, head injuries that happen more often than not. Even though there are protective measures taken to prevent concussions and other head injuries, many football players are still being hit so hard in every game that they may experience one or more concussions in a single game day.…

Concussions have been an issue in the NFL for over 5 decades. Over the course of time, they had been increasing. One of the major factors for the increase was the changing of the game itself. Teams no longer heavily relied on running the ball but became quick offenses. They relied on quick curls, drags, hitches and slants, leaving the receivers defenseless after catching the ball. In a conventional west coast offense, the ball was thrown at least 15 yards down the field but now many teams are only throwing it 5 yards down the field. The players that are catching these short throws are expected to have a great YAC (yards after the catch). These players…
