Posh - Laura Wade
Soliloquy of Guy Belling field – Posh

Guy. Guy Bellingfield. Yeah that’s me; Aspiring president of the infamous Riot Club. Tonight lads this glorious return is going down in fucking history I can put my money on it. But there’s just one slight problem... I’m pretty stuck for ideas which is peculiar because I’m awesome and I’m not going to let any of these idiots especially that foreigner Dimitri, fuck this up for me. Who does he think he is? Prancing around the grounds of where I’m about to make history, with humus and pitta bread! No chance. I know what will work! Shit why didn’t I think of this earlier! A ten bird roast! Bonding over the meat and fire at the expense of a few birds will leave my mark. A sacrament! I’ll show these boys what’s gonna go down at this table. Show James exactly how it is supposed to be done round here. My uncle Jezza will be well chuffed! But what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him... A dozen crates of champagne, a lot of penis action! I’m not a man of disappointment. It won’t be hard to get the vote of that new chap Ed. Oblivious, shy, childlike but best of all fresh and new. He doesn’t know any better I mean did you see the way he said ‘totes’. Once he’s under my power he’ll know exactly how to address my brotherhood. Soliloquy of Guy Belling field – Posh

Louis Nowra has used black comedy within Cosi to allow the audience to abandon their pre-conceptions of ‘mad’ people and to see the characters not for their illness but for their personality. Because of this the audience is able to relate to each character and their situation and realise the underlying sadness of the patients’ lives. Each character brings their own experiences and personalities into the play which creates the audience to perceive characters differently. One of the most obvious perceptions of some characters in the play is the sympathy and pity they invoke through their characters development. The character Roy, who suffers from manic depression, creates sympathy from the audience due to his tragic childhood and consent rejection from society and even the ‘insane’. Julie is also another character who’s also perceived as tragic. Julie is a patient in the asylum due to drug dependency which ultimately causes her death after the play has finished.…

As terrace regulars, it is recognised that everyone’s level of commitment and contribution to the NT is different. What is also recognised is that the North Terrace on game day when working as ONE can reach a level of strength & active support that is unrivalled on the Australian sporting landscape. Today is such a day.... The following outline the minimum level of support that we should all accept when standing under the North Terrace collective for 90+ MINUTES of football. • Respect the Capo(i) and listen • Know your chants (Pockets of confused but willing NT contributors dilute our strength, so time your entry into the NT carefully). • Show solidarity to the North Terrace community (crews, independents, front, back) • Be disciplined • Actively encourage those around you…

The article “Women, Children, and the Uses of the Streets: Class and Gender Conflict in New York City, 1850-1860,” Christine Stansell argues that during the nineteenth century the streets of New York were grounds of different outlooks toward children. The kids who wandered the city streets such as playing, huckstering, and committing theft or homeless, were an indication of the typical middle class moral failure due to their parents. Moralists often saw the home as a sanctified area that protected children from the harm of society. Parents whom worked, often their children worked too and did not receive the family support that social reformers claimed were essential to their spiritual and moral improvement. In New York City, the success of these reformers in safeguarding public areas indicated both the control of the middle class and the idea of women being encouraging role models in the home.…

“ A modest proposal” by Jonathan Swift is a rhetoric piece that satirizes the dismal political, social and economic conditions in 18th century Ireland. As a solution, the preposterous proposal suggests that the Irish eat their own babies; as it is logically viable, and economically profitable: a condition adhering to the rational mentality of the age of reason. Swift develops his argument on two levels: A seemingly intellectual persona, caricaturized on a stereotypical upper class Englishman who promotes cannibalism through the use of subtle euphemisms. And the other, as himself, cleverly veiled in the caustic undertones of the pamphlet who is appalled at the plight of the Irish. Swift uses this dual personality to reveal the falseness of the persona’s credibility, and eventually the proposal suggested by him.…
