Port Fairy
PORT FAIRY – THE MOST LIVABLE TOWN IN THE WORLD
I live in Port Fairy which is in South West Victoria. As a mother of four I find it extremely relevant and desirable to bring my children up in a fun and carefree environment. What better place to raise children than ‘The most livable city with a population of under 20,000’. (The Standard Newspaper, May 2011). Port Fairy won this prestigious International Livcom Awards that were held in the United Arab Emirates. With members of the local council, Port Fairy was spruced for its port, beaches which there are three main beaches and the iconic bluestone cottages which all the bluestone was locally sourced and hand pitched that have stood the test of time. It was judged for strategic planning, environmental practices, healthy lifestyle and heritage. Sadly, though it was the only Australian Contender for the awards according the extremely proud article by the local newspaper, The Standard.

Today Port Fairy is a stunning historic coastal village on the south west coast of Australia approximately 250 kilometer’s, depending on where you get your information from. Wikipedia states 293 klm’s from Victoria’s capital city, Melbourne, but www.localstats.apzm.com.au states 248 klm’s.
It has a current population of 3094 residents (Census 2011) and the median/average age of Port Farians (as they like to be known as) is 48 years old which is 11 years above the Australian average according to Port Fairy Demographics which I found very interesting and I wanted so much more information.
