Mark had taken the last 3 days off work because he was ill but he was back to his usual happy self again. Springing out of his bed he got ready for work. After locking his front door his walked to his t black Vauxhall astra which he had been saving his money for 3 years. Pulling out of his driveway he stuck on the radio. Rhianna blasted out as Mark cruised across Brooklyn, skyscrapers towered over him and his hatchback. He parked outside his office block and still with the song in his head strolled through the front doors and into the lift. BING the lift was at floor 7 and Mark and 3 other men went to their work stations.
Shaking his head and plodding around was what Mark was seeing through the blinds of his boss’s private office. Winding himself up as if he was a jack in a box. Mark was wondering who he was going to shout out but his questions were soon answered ‘MARK GET TO MY OFFICE’ . Feeling like a school child getting called to the headmaster’s office he walked in a little confused. ‘One more sick-note, mister, and you’re finished. Fired’.
After a long days work I decided to take the longer more scenic route home to try to make sense of why my boss had said that day. He wanted a different life a free one with not a care in the world. About ten minute from his home he spotted a man and the envy immediately build up inside of him. Stapming on the brake he stopped the car next to him and the hicter got in. He was following the sun from west to east with just a tooth brush and good earth for a bed. Mark was getting extremely frustrated and could’t take it anymore and let him have it once with the head and six times with the krooklock. Leaning across he let him out and watched in the rear view mirror as he disappeared down the grassy verge. He’d said he liked the breeze. I dropped it into third and sped off onto the horizon. Dusk was settleing when Mark realised what he had done.
What did I just do? I just killed an innocent man. He

A poem is an expression of emotion or ideas through literary work, often with a distinctive style and rhythm. Kenneth Slessor’s ‘Beach Burial’ and Bruce Dawe’s ‘Elegy for Drowned Children’ both present ideas on how individuals lament for the passed, through the major theme of death. Beach Burial follows the recurring events of the battle of El Alamein in WW2, whilst The Elegy for Drowned Children questions the fate of those unfortunate souls who have drowned. Although both poems incorporate drownin, they contrast in their interpretation of death and the ‘afterlife’. This idea of death is explored through the use of setting, language techniques and symbolism. The poet’s use these devices to emotionally connect with the reader, and each contribute to the specific meanings they are attempting to convey.…

In the poem, “The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls” written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the poem “Thanatopsis” written by William Cullen Bryant, two different ways in which one may view may view death is established. In “The Tide Rises the Tide Falls” Longfellow’s diction, imagery and figurative language help to create a tone of eeriness. While in Bryant’s poem “Thanatopsis” he creates a more peaceful/calming tone.…

It is amazing how poems can be so different yet so similar. When talking about a thing like love, it becomes less difficult to understand knowing how complicated the subject is. “Love” by Eavan Boland talks about how Eavan and her husband had been through some turbulent times. They veered apart in their love that used to be so intense and Eavan about how much she misses that. How much that man, her husband, meant to Eavan. In the song “Photograph” by the band Nickelback it is also a sense of longing. The main character in the song (singer Chad Kroeger) reminisces about the good old days in his hometown in Canada. As Kroeger sings you feel the raw emotion towards the town and everything within it. The love is so intense and he longs for it so badly. By analyzing “Love” by Eavan Boland and “Photograph” by Nickelback it becomes easier to realize that… [While the 2 poems can be quite different in tone, rhyme scheme, style, and other poetic devices, the author’s raw emotion is so similar despite this.]…

The acquaintance between people, knowing each other is destined to fate. Although, not all dreams have time to achieve, not all words have time to tell you, always want to cherish the heart after the parting. Meet so hurried, Leave also hurried. High mountains bumpy, let us join hands full with the spirit of Maple Leaf. Because of the wind and rain we can see the beautiful rainbow, because of the wind and rain we didn't stand out of life. The youth season so affectionate, formative years so appealing. If the encounter is only three years ago as a numeral outside of the accident, so three years to know each other and bring our together is the fate, and tonight's gathering is the joy of the three years of happy time. I wish all of the 2017 session…

Both the poems start with 'suddenly' which makes the poem sound explosive and means that it has impact right from the very beginning. As well as this, in each poem a change in stanza shows a change in the poem - in ‘Belfast Confetti’ it goes from past to present tense and in ‘Bayonet Charge, it goes from action to inaction and allows us time to reflect. Both poems also use lists; in ‘Belfast Confetti’, the use of the list ‘Balaklava, Raglan...' show how the conflict has affected everywhere. The list 'nuts, bolts, nails...' shows how ordinary things used to build are instead being used to attack and destroy. In ‘Bayonet Charge’ a list is also used, but to different effect, the list; 'king, honour, human dignitary, etcetera' emphasises the pointlessness of war. The use of ‘etcetera, shows that these reasons no longer matter and makes us question why this is happening. Both poems also use devices such as onomatopoeia (stuttering and shot slashed) to replicate the sounds of war. Finally both poems are in free verse which give the idea of confusion.…

‘How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.’ is a poem written in the 19th century by a poet named Elizabeth Barret Brown. Assuming that this love sonnet was written from the poets point of view this poem is about how a lady loves her lover. The title suggests that this poet will list how she loves a certain person and in how many different ways and the poem does exactly that, Elizabeth also compares her love to things that it is not possible to live without. The language used in the title such as the word ‘thee’ instead of saying ‘you’ shows that modern day language will not be present.…

The three poems "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson, "We Wear the Mask" by Paul Laurence Dunbar, and "Not Waving but Drowning" by Stevie Smith all have the same theme that appearances can be deceiving and that people are not always what they seem. The poems convey the idea that people can misinterpret the meaning behind other people's actions because the actions are deliberately misleading. The subjects in each of these poems give people the wrong impression by making them think their lives are satisfactory, but in reality they are miserable and desperately need help.…

D.H. Lawrence’s poem ‘Piano’ shows a man remembering his childhood when he heard a woman singing during the evening then talks about the longing for his childhood. The poem consists of 3 short stanzas but really shows the imagery quite clearly. The first stanza talks about a woman singing and playing the piano which takes him down a trip on memory lane. The music reminds him of the time he was sitting under the piano with his mother gracefully playing the piano while at the same time singing along. On the other hand in the second stanza we are able to see that he creates a conflict with himself that he has to give up remembering about the past and that he can’t let his emotions take control over him,…
