ALCOHOL THE EVIL BEAST How many of you know some people that drink alcohol. Well for me most of the people I know get drunk every day of the week. It doesn’t matter if they were hungry and they were down to their last three dollars, they would still choose to get a beer. Drinking alcohol looks like it almost took over the world but we still have a chance to stop it. All we have to do is make it illegal to use and purchase the liquid drug called alcohol. The reasons why I say this is because alcohol is very addictive, it causes health problems, and because it affects people’s judgment.
A person who suffers from alcoholism becomes obsessed with alcohol and feels as though they have no control over how much they drink. Their drinking typically comes before their personal health and it creates problems in their home life. It often causes the alcoholic to have serious issues at work or even to lose their job (http://www.alcoholaddiction.info/alcoholism-statistics.htm). A person dealing with alcoholism not only has an effect on their job but it has an effect on their family and friends as well. The people who are suffering from alcoholism have made it a way of life and they cannot control the amount of alcohol that they take in.
It's no secret that drinking too much alcohol can cause major health problems, including cirrhosis of the liver and injuries sustained in automobile accidents. Alcohol intoxication can be severe enough to cause poisoning and death from too much alcohol. Short-term health effects from alcohol abuse can include sexual problems, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, periods of depression, and high blood pressure (http://www.ghc.org/healthAndWellness/?item=/common/healthAndWellness/healthyLiving/lifestyle/alcohol-problems.html). In 2010 there were 15,183 alcoholic liver disease related deaths and 24,518 alcohol-induced deaths—excluding accidents and homicides. Many are impacted by alcohol abuse although they are not alcoholics or may not even

Alcohol dependence is also called alcoholism. You are physically or mentally addicted to alcohol. You have a strong need, or a craving, to drink. PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

Alcohol causes so many other problems for society too. Drinking and driving is a very big problem. Many people have lost their lives because someone was driving drunk. There are commercials and organizations that put the word out continually not to drive under the influence of alcohol, but it continues to fall upon death ears. One of the so called solutions is to get a designated driver before you go out to drink. People believe that they don't need a designated driver because they do not plan to get drunk. It all comes back to…
