In the midst of conversations blaring in the dining room, one family member reamrks, "I don't have anything to be thankful for this year." Suddenly the room fell silent. I felt the need to speak out and persuade this family member of the different things we have to be thankful for. You're thrown down hard onto an old rotten stump, dazed you look up and see a shiny object hurtling down towards your head then, *thwack* and the world suddenly turns dark. This is the life for millions of turkeys on Thanksgiving. Every Thanksgiving forty-five million turkeys are mercilessly slaughtered and that's only on one day and twenty-two million turkeys are killed on Christmas. Turkeys shouldn’t be slaughtered on Thanksgiving or any other time really because even though eating turkey gives you necessary nutrients turkeys also speed up the timeline for meeting death and causes health problems. Turkeys are treated cruelly and are mutilated because turkeys are not protected by any laws saying they can’t be abused or hurt. Finally lots of turkey farmers inject turkeys with growth hormones, in order to stunt their growth so they can make more money off of them.…

Clarissa Harlowe "Clara" Barton was a pioneer nurse who founded the American Red Cross. In addition to being a hospital nurse, she worked as a teacher, patent clerk, and humanitarian. At a time when relatively few women worked outside the home, Barton built a career helping others. She was never married, as she knew the restrictions of a married woman at the time, but had a relationship with John J. Elwell. During the end of the American Civil War, Barton worked at a hospital she made helping the people at the Andersonville prison camp where 13,000 people died.…

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks. It is also the time to sit down and enjoy a meal with your family. Even though enjoying a meal with your family is very important, Thanksgiving is also important to ask you and your family what are you thankful for. Being thankful can be a long or short accomplishment; a goal that can be achieved. This year, I’m thankful that I’m currently enrolled at Thomas Nelson Community College, graduated from high school, and my family is supporting me through college.…

This is not your typical Thanksgiving guide. We are not the Food Network so we will not talk about how to cook a Thanksgiving feast. This is more about the behind the scenes footage of Thanksgiving. Instead of what to cook, I want to tap into those holiday nuances like your Mother and Aunt, arguing over who’s making the dressing this year, or the Uncle that has to bring a different woman to dinner every year because he is still trying to get under Aunt Margaret’s skin. You'll get rules on hosting a party, should you bring something if invited, how involved do you want your husband to be, and so on. Here is the rundown of the Do’s and Don’ts of Thanksgiving.…

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year. After all it’s the time of year for family and celebration. For some families it’s just another excuse to get together eat good food and enjoy each other’s company. Thanksgiving is a particularly interesting holiday because most men end up in front of the television and the women are the ones in the kitchen. There is certainly a gender divide that arises around the holidays. Most women don’t sit down until the meal is on the table. The average wife spends her entire day preparing for guest, feeding and satisfying family members. For most men it’s a day of relaxation on the on the other hand, for the woman it’s a day of physical work.…

Thanksgiving, one of the most joyful times of the year- unless you're a turkey. You see, this whole Thanksgiving thing started about four hundred years ago. In that time, more than 18000 million of my closest relatives have been murdered. I would escape but i'm a domestic turkey, so i can't fly. I were a wild turkey, i would waddle away from this place, after all, a am the biggest turkey in the pen. Many of the young fryers in my pen don’t know their fate, but I do. How does one of the most highly respected animals in the animal kingdom fall this low, I mean, we were almost the national symbol of the United States of America and now, we are being ripped apart, pulverized, and eaten by our own people. Us turkeys have to watch out for our own, it's a dangerous world out there.…

Online, physically, or verbally you can be a victim of being bullied. You don’t have to keep things as they are. The question is how to handle the situation (Do you attack the bully and become the bully yourself? Or do you ignore the bully and pretend all is well?) What you do is speak up and ask for help. I would know, because not only was I a victim, I was also a person who stood by and simply watched it happen.…

“Euthanasia”, “mercy killing”, and “physically assisted suicide” – no matter what it is called – they all mean the same thing: ending a person’s life who is in a vegetative state or who is suffering from terminal illness, in order to relieve the subject of pain and suffering associated with their condition. But the main question is, is euthanasia right? Everyone dies, and if a person is terminally ill, then they should have the right to decide to pass away without the suffering.…
