Athletes all over the nation get hurt at some point in their career.”High school athletes account for an estimate of 2 million injuries and 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year” (“Youth Sports Injuries Statistics”). And think this is only high school students. To decrease these numbers people must educate others, teach good form, and have proper rules in place to keep them safe. However we can stop the injuries if we know more about them. There are many, many injuries that can happen in sports. “Sprains are injuries to ligaments, the tough bands connecting bones in a joint. The NFL put it in the hands of the referee to stop illegal hits during their game. “ There is a rule in the books that a referee can throw somebody out of the game ( for illegal hits)” (“How will NFL improve concussions over the next 50 years”).However there has been a decrease in those hits.Now the refs have to make those judgement calls. “ Now I’ve been watching football my whole life, I’ve never seen someone thrown out of the game” (“How will NFL improve concussions over the next 50 years”). However, referees play a key part in keeping the game safe. Since technology is always getting better, scientists are trying to create a new helmet that will hopefully decrease more head injuries. “ First, improvements in helmet construction, including padding that hardens on impact and honeycomb structures only possible through 3D printing, may help absorb forces” (“ How will NFL improve concussions over the next 50 years”). People need to know that efforts are out there to keep our athletes safe. As long as we have proper safety rules and equipment, head injuries will decrease
