I would like to apply for Special Assistant. I work well with others, but am also self-motivated and can get things done without someone constantly reminding me what I need to do. I am the president of the Zero Waste club, and an honor student. I take pride in everything I do, and strive to go above and beyond what is expected from me. Working well with others along with good communication is a strong suit of mine. In soccer I am center defense (sweeper), so I have to tell the outside defenders who their mark is, and make sure the other team does not get past us. In tennis I play doubles, so I constantly communicating to the other player to make sure one of us has the ball, or to tell them that it is out so they do not have to work as hard.…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

I can clearly remember from a young age trying to help my younger family members with their school work. I enjoyed helping people, as I progressed through life, I liked coaching members of my team but never pursued it any further until one morning I woke up and decided that I no longer wished to work in a bank. I longed for a change and whilst I was on maternity leave, I looked into the possibility of entering teaching. I cannot afford this I thought, I must be mad wanting to leave a perfectly good job and go back to university, oh well I'll just apply and see what happens..... 6 months later and I'm holding an acceptance letter, was I really going to do this.... YES.…

A wise person once told me to “find a career and I will never be without a job.” I took that statement and ran with it! My freshman year everyone was motivating and questioning me on my future and what I wanted to do with. It started off as a counselor until I realized I do not necessarily BASK listening to INCONSOLABLE stories all day! Next it was a meteorologist, but can’t we look outside and see that it's raining? Then it was a teacher, and for that one let's just everything isn't for everybody! I found myself becoming BEWILDERED and feeling DESOLATED because I had peeked my junior year; the year where everything is supposed to be VAST and ready to go, and I was still AMBIVALENT on what I wanted “in the real world” as I heard in the many EXPOUNDING lectures. It was not until the summer of my senior year that God had finally put it in my heart to become a Pediatric Nurse Advisor; to become this person that can ASSUAGE and ABATE people, to become the…

The greatest way to live life is through experiences. I have given back to my community the best I knew how; through education. I have volunteered at my old elementary school, Leonard Flynn, for years now. I have worked with younger children, hoping they will grow to appreciate their education the way I have. My experience as a teacher assistant has made me a more patient and caring person. It has also motivated me to use my knowledge to better someone’s future.…

When I first started out going to school after college I thought that I wanted to be a teacher and so right after high school I started going to school to be an elementary teacher. I quit school because I wanted to move out of my parent’s house and be on my own so I got a full time job. After I moved and got stable I went back to get my early elementary degree. After about a year and a half I got pregnant and had my son and couldn’t go to class in the morning after being up all night with a toddler and then to work so I quit school again until my son got older. My son was able to start school when he was two so I decided to go back to school and get my educational degree. As I was going to school I was also volunteering at my son’s school and that is when I decided I really didn’t want to be a teacher and I was undecided what I wanted to do and I knew I was wasting my money and time going to school so I quit once again. I got a job at a temp agency working for the temp sending people on assignments and after a year the company decided they were going to close the company in my location but my supervisor got me a job at Advanced Radiology Services doing data entry putting in codes in the system. After a few years I realized that I really like being in the health care field and wanted a career in it and I tried to move up doing different jobs in the field but I realized that in order to really move up and eventually become a director I would need a degree so I decided to get my degree in Healthcare Management so I went back to school, this time determined to make it work.…

When I was younger, I was an introvert and lacked communication skills. Holding conversations with adults were no problem, but when it came to my peers I always struggled. I was trapped in my head to the point of having panic attacks. When my family fell under financial difficulty, I found a job as a valet driver. I was required to communicate constantly with customers and fellow employees. I was forced outside my comfort zone to take initiative and communicate effectively with customers. In college, I advanced my communication skills when I became a teacher’s assistant and fundraising coordinator for FIMRC. As a teaching assistant, I gained confidence interacting with my peers, as I held four hours of discussion each week. As fundraising coordinator,…

It was not until my freshman year in high school that I knew I wanted to be a teacher; better yet, a Band Director. I had always had a passion for music but never actually thought about pursuing it as a career. It was not until my mom and I sat down and talked about my college career path. I was having a hard time deciding what I wanted to do when I “grew up”. It was then that my mom suggested that I be a High School Band Director because of my passion for not only music but also marching band. I then gave it some thought and knew for sure that that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.…

My main reason for wanting to become a teacher is because I love children and I love working with them. Upon graduation from Boston College, I've had the opportunity of working in New York City public schools as a substitute teacher and at a privately owned nursery school in the Bronx as a part-time instructor. My experiences have been very rewarding thus far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. I can't even begin to describe the joyous feeling of knowing that I've touched the lives of the kids-- it is truly priceless. When kids pass tests, when kids say, "I get it," when kids come in and say, "Thanks. You're the best teacher I ever had," or "will we have you again" that means a lot. They make me laugh, they give me hugs, they cheer for my presence, they are observant, and most of them just need a little push. They give me nicknames, they miss me when I'm gone, they try so hard to do what I ask so much of the time. The most amazing feeling of all though is when the kids tell me they want to be just like me and teach just like me and are able to go in front of the class and teach others what I have just taught them. I have finally discovered what I am truly passionate about and am pursuing this passion by continuing my education so that I am able to fulfill my goal of being the best that anyone possible could be. This is what has driven me to want to go to Mercy and continue my education to become a teacher.…

I didn’t want to fight to get up every morning in order to make myself go to work. I finally realized where my heart was set when I began working at a summer camp in 2008. I worked with third grade and loved every moment of it. I have worked with different age groups over the last few years and have come to realize that I love working with children. This is how I figured out what I wanted to do.…
