Personal Opinion Essay: Homework Should Be Banned
Everyone has a different point of view on the homework. The majority of people say homework should be banned but they never really tell why it’s mostly just because they don’t like it or it’s boring. I’m here to explain that homework is a good thing.
Homework doesn't take all day; realistically you will have time for other things. Homework allows practice for future endeavors, and teaches responsibility and organization skills. Homework allows children to work at their own pace, without peer pressure and afraid of falling behind during class. Homework allows time to study for tests, and go over work that you did in class. not all classes teach the same material at the same pace.
Practice homework, (the most common type) is assigned to reinforce material presented by the teacher and to help student’s master individual skills. In a study of teachers' use of homework in high schools, found that teachers most frequently assigned homework to reinforce class material (55 percent) and to master course objectives (23 percent). In classes typically the teacher quickly reviewing goes like this:
Teacher: Before getting started on the homework today, let’s see if you
Remember everything.
Jerel, give an example of the commutative property, Please.
Jerel: 9 x 5 = 5 x 9.
Teacher: Excellent. Wanda, how about an example of the distributive property?
Wanda: 4(2 + 3) = (4 x 2) + (4 x 3) = 20.
Teacher: Great! Okay, you all seem to have this so everyone get busy with Problems 1-30 on page 65.
See things like this are what enforces the need of homework because if not all the students are to answer the questions in class and they don’t all answer how do they supposed fully understand the concept and don’t ask they’ll never really know.
Another reason we need homework is it helps the kids who are doing their homework get good study habits which can help them in the future along with learning to use their resources. One of the 10 good ways to study on http://www.csc.edu/learningcenter/study/studymethods.csc (Chardon State College) making sure you know the work and Frequent reviews throughout the course will bring rewards at test time and will alleviate pre-test anxiety.
In conclusion students need homework to fully grasp things yes sometimes it is a drag and you may not want to do it but the teachers don’t like grading it either remember it’s for your
benefit.
