Personal Narrative: The Cabin In The Woods
The event is when I went on a Calkins campus trip that lasted about a week. I went with a bunch of friends, the routine is that we first gather at culkin's campus and then we went on a trip somewhere to learn more about nature first we went crayfish trapping, I caught a lot of crayfish, but unfortunately we had to let them go, so we couldn't eat them.
On the second day we went on a trip to see all the different types of grass and wildlife. The grass was so tall that all I had to do is crouch down and no one could see me.

On day three we went on an hour hike, where we could see all the types of weather formations in nature, I was so amazed and overwhelmed by what I saw all around me, I was just mind blown. so I just wanted to learn more about the world around me, and learn about how to survive in nature.

After words we went on a nature hike and walked for what seemed to be hours discussing how to read the terrain and how to use self reliance.
Well, if there is one thing that I learned from that day it's that whenever we have really good warm weather without a cloud in the sky, then there's gonna be rain.

Then on day five we gathered at a lake where we went kayaking, and fishing, but I only caught a frog.
Later we ate our lunch and I actually socialized with other people! After that we went on a tour on the edge of the lake. Even though it was our last day being on the week long trip we had a lot of fun and had a good time.

What I learned from these experiences was how to live off the land and survive, and it was there that I learned common sense, like fire is hot! and sharp pointy things hurt! and that having a little “gravity check” was not the best thing, yeah, I learned from my mistakes, and I made a lot of mistakes! but overall I had a great time and had a some

It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

The trail continued around the east side of the lake entering a gathering of trees forming an insignificant forest along the lake’s shoreline. From our viewpoint, the trees concealing the trail eventually dispersed on the southeast side of the lake, and the trail blended into the landscape. Using our imagination, we envisioned the route against the rugged terrain sloping into the lake. No point in taking a vote now, we had trekked to the lake and the consensus was to proceed with a lap around the lake.…

When we arrived I popped open the trailer and too a nice long nap because we got up at 3 am and left at 4 am. After my nap I met up with a couple of friends who were also staying in the campsites next to us who were also taking naps . We went hiking to Yosemite Falls with a guide to watch the water flow down. It was beautiful and there was a sunset which made it even prettier. Our guide who led us there told us we should make a list to follow every day we were staying. We asked what were the greatest thing to see. He said Half Dome, Ansel Adams Gallery Tuolumne Meadows, Mist Trail and Vernal Fall,Glacier…

Growing up in rural Kansas was boring. Especially since I grew up in the seventies. There were no cell phones or game systems to occupy my time. My family had an old black and white television set. I loved to watch The Price is Right in the days before Bob Barker’s hair turned white. After the show was over, the only way to kill time was to play outside and wander down to the creek that ran parallel to our property. There was a secret trail buried in the wall of trees that lined our two acre yard. My brother and I would slide down the trail, landing on the dirt banks like explorers on a mission. Sometimes we would hunt for crawdads under rocks. Other times we would take our poles and fish. We never went into the water after the time I got bit by a gar.…

It was a scorching summer day in Las Vegas and my dad and I were meandering around the city in awe of the size of everything. The both of us, father and son, were going to meet up with my grandpa to go to the Grand Canyon for one of the greatest trips ever. We were going white water rafting on the Colorado River for eight days.…

Outdoor Education remains my favorite field trip of all time due to all of the memorable activities we experienced. For instance, I was able to touch and hold a wide variety of animals that I had never seen until I visited their science center. One animal was a blue tongue skink that reminded me of leather because it was dry and smooth. The chinchilla was also smooth, yet its fur was also the softest that I had ever felt. This goes to show that one can find similarities in unusual places. I would have never guessed that a reptile and a mammal would have anything in common, but their bodies were pleasing to the touch in different ways. In addition, I also was able to scale great heights when I visited the high ropes course deep in the forest. Once I had my safety harness and helmet, I surged upward on ladders and nets. The nets were not as challenging as the balance beam which turned out to be my favorite because of the patience and determination that were needed. I realize now that even something difficult can be fun. I hope to use this thought in other areas of my life because now I might achieve even more than before. Finally, I loved splashing around Lake Peters in the canoe with my partner. The direction on how to hold the paddle and how to steer were not that hard, but actually doing it on the lake was difficult. It became less difficult with the help of my partner because we had to work together to be successful. This means that two heads are better than one! Sometimes we depend on others to reach our goals. I have learned from this trip that there are many opportunities out there for us to…
