Personal Narrative: My Life In North Carolina
When I was eight years old I lived in North Carolina with my mother, father, brother, and sister. We all lived together in a nice five bedroom home; we had two dogs and three birds. Everything was perfect in my eyes until my mom got into my uncles brand new car and drove away. I never saw her again! My sister and I were in my room in trouble for fighting, and everyone else was outside having a great time barbequing and hanging with some other family members. My mom and uncle went to test drive his new car and once they left out of our drive way they never returned. All I remember is hearing a loud bang noise and my dad running and jumping in his truck to see if my mom and uncle were okay. A little time passed and I heard police sirens and

We finally moved to North Carolina and I was devastated. I felt like I had to leave behind all of the friends I had just started formulating deeper bonds with. I felt like I had to start over from scratch with making friends and I missed Khalif; and finding out that he contacted me the night before we moved and I missed his call, didn't make things any easier. I never told him I was moving when I found out. I figured since we wasn’t together anymore, why bother. He found out my last day of school because my best friend and I were crying, and another student went back and told him. He approached me before the day was over, and wanted to know why I didn’t tell him I was moving. After we talked, he gave me a hug. I didn’t expect him to try to contact me that night. I didn’t find out he had called until my family and I were well in NC and I checked the caller ID box.…

Before I moved to NC , I lived out west. The demographic and food delicacies are far different than here in the south. My taste aversion was fully loaded hot dog with chili and slaw. I never heard of that type of combination on a hot dog. I was raised eating a hot dog with just ketchup, mustard, relish and sometimes onions. I have lived in NC for about 23 years. I finally tried eating a hot dog Carolina style and love it. Since I have gluten allergy, I skip the bun and still eat it that way.…

My rite of passage was coming to Randolph-Macon. As I arrived at Randolph-Macon College on September 1st to begin my freshman year of college, I could not do anything but shake from being so nervous. My parents kept telling me that everything would come together and I would fit right in. I had never felt so out of place. Coming from a small private school, with a graduating class of 30, I could not bear to meet a freshman class that was as bigger than my hometown or my k-12 school. It was like I was a nightmare and no matter how many times I pinched myself, I could not wake up. I was trapped here without any friends or a vehicle to escape.…

Before we knew it, it was morning and my dad was waking us up so we could leave back on the road again. The next day the hours seemed like they were longer, we were all tired of sitting down in the van, but when we 'd ask my parents when we were going to get there, they 'd always reply "We 're almost there". It can be quite tough to sit in a van for 2 days with no room to move, because you have 2 sisters and 2 brothers besides yourself who are all on the trip. At times I can remember fighting with my brothers because they would try to get me mad by grabbing my toys. However, my mom would always defend me and make them stop.…

My parents had my older brother and me when they were very young and they struggled to grow up while having small children. Eventually, they got divorced and moved apart from each other. When I was 2 years old, my mother met and married my stepfather and we all moved to North Dakota. In this time I travelled back and forth between my mother in North Dakota and my father in Montana. I spent my school years in North Dakota and my summers and Christmas in Montana with my dad. This was hard on me when I was young because I had no sense of what home was. My mother and stepfather moved to Bismarck, North Dakota after having my little brother and remained there until I left for college. When I was a freshman at UND they got divorced. They were married for 17 years but decided it was the right decision to have separate lives. This was hard for me because my stepfather felt like he was not my father anymore, even though he was the one that raised me.…

From the age of 5 to about 10, we lived in the most awesome apartment complex. Not because the apartment was great, but because we had great neighbors. The neighbor that lived in the apartment across from us was an older woman who was so sweet. She'd give us treats and money, let us in the house when we came home from school as our parents didn't trust us with the key! One of our upstairs neighbors were so great, always played great music, and their daughters were my HEROES. I loved those girls. They were so pretty with the most gorgeous hair and very smart. One of our neighbors on the 3rd floor was a single mom and her daughter. Her daughter was the neighborhood brat, but we were friends. And the youngest daughter on the second floor, who was 2 years older than me, and the younger girl on the 3rd floor, who was 2 years younger than me all hung out until the older girl 'graduated' from elementary school, then got too cool for us, but was still so nice. Our families were extremely close and we were like family. Then our second floor neighbors moved, then we moved. I was so gutted. Our whole neighbor was alive the day we moved. We played the whole entire day with all of our friends and I was so emotional.…
