Personal Narrative: My Experience At Gwynedd Mercy University
During my time at Gwynedd Mercy University, I experienced many hardships that today made me a stronger student. When I first attended Gwynedd Mercy University, my parents encouraged me to choose a major where I would have a career in allied health. Unfortunately, deep in my heart I knew it was something I did not want to pursue but I knew it would make my parents happy. As the semesters went on, I tried to keep up with the studies but science was just something I was not good at. This led me to struggle and choose another major. It took me a while to finally choose what I wanted to do and I always wanted to pursue a career that would help people in ways other than allied health sciences. I chose to declare Human Services as my major and I became very content. However, things were still not easy for me. The middle of my college years, I became very ill. I suffered from many illnesses that set me back on attending classes. At this same time, I grew into depression and anxiety because I did not want to use sickness as an excuse, but knowing that I was not in my best physical and mental state really discouraged me. As my illness went on, my family was hit with my mother being the only source of income. This led me to having to work extra hours at the crack of dawn before classes, attending classes, then …show more content…
I learned that many of my professors were there to help me if I needed, I was just too prideful to let them know I was struggling in every which way. Even though my beginning GPA is not the best of my ability, I tried my hardest my last two senior years. My advisor noticed that I was much more confident and dedicated in making myself better. For myself, I would not count on letting my GPA define me. I pushed myself on finishing off strong, setting goals to make dean’s list my last year and I did it. If I had not faced those struggles, I would not be the student/person I am

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

When I first began my educational journey I didn’t really know where to start. I didn’t know if I wanted to go to a secular university or a Christian college, I seemed to be torn. Secular universities provide big names and a multitude of degree selections, while Christian universities provide Christ centered values that unlike secular universities won’t contradict your faith. So after weighing the pros and cons I had to honor my belief and I selected a Christian college. As I said before it was all about the values that they share and the mission that they have. Grace bible college provides exactly that, my goal is to get a college education and succeed in society while serving Christ. Grace’s Mission is to “graduate godly individuals prepared…
