Personal Narrative: My Eagle Project

A time when I took the lead in solving a problem in my community was when I chose my Eagle Project. I wanted my project to impact as many people as possible and I also wanted to give back to the organization that had sponsored my scout troop for so long. I looked over the church grounds and found a need. The church, borders the Harpeth River in Franklin, TN and members can choose to have baptisms done in the river. The problem that existed was that the baptismal site wasn’t safe for those partaking in it or viewing it. The riverbank is steep and there wasn’t a safe place for families to view the event. An old triangular deck was present, but it was small, not adequately anchored and had poorly attached rope rails. My goal was to construct a
I had found a problem and solved it with an incredible solution. This project was significant to me because it marked on of the greatest moments in my scouting career. The Eagle service project is one of the largest challenges a scout faces. Completing the eagle project means that you have successfully found a solution to a problem,planned it, and executed it without fail. I was able to accomplish my goal while learning how to be a leader in a project of this proportion. As the leader I learned how to put my trust into other people's abilities and use their advice to solve setbacks. This skill is something that I can use to impact my school and community in the future. Another reason why this project was significant to me is because it will be used by people for a long time, meaning that my project will impact numerous people in the community. The overall impact of my project is that the church, benefactor, now has a safe and durable space to use during baptisms. They now have easier access to the river and a large platform for the families to watch the special occasion. The deck can also be used as an outdoor classroom for the church's school; students are now able to view the river and nature around them without going near the dangerous edge. In addition, the deck is used as recreational area. People from the community can come and enjoy sitting on it for one afternoon or use it as a nice spot to hold
