Personal Leisure Inventory

Leisure and recreation is an important part in everyone's day to day life. If you look at a typical persons schedule, they sleep for 8 hours and work/go to school for 8 hours. What does a person do for the rest of the 8? This is where leisure and recreation kicks in. Leisure is time spent away from work, business, or school and recreation is a specific activity done in leisure time. I will be sharing my own leisure inventory which include my current leisure activities, the benefits I get from them and how frequent I do them.. Then I will talk about my leisure needs and the plan I will pursue in order to accomplish my goals. Types of Involvement
Reflecting back upon my table of personal leisure inventory, I can see that I am currently engaged in a lot of physical, health and social leisure activities. Working out at the gym, playing basketball, and dancing are all integral parts of my life and the physical and health benefits I get from them are amazing. All my leisure activities are social benefits as well as each activity I have listed requires me to be social. A couple of my activities also give me cultural benefits as well. Hanging out with friends is a great cultural benefit because depending on which friends you are with you adapt to the culture surrounding them. Or in my case I have a sense of different culture when I am with my friends. Also,

    Everyone has his or her own definition of what leisure time looks like. What varies is the type of recreational activities people choose to do during these leisure times. There are many sociocultural factors that influence ones unique interest in what activities to chose. The sociocultural factors such as social, political, economic, and environment constrain our leisure and recreation for many reasons.     The activities performed for leisure are divided into two categories; passive leisure time and active leisure time. The department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (2013) defines passive leisure time as the time spent on rudimentary activities that require minimal mental and physical exertion. In contrast, active leisure time is the time spent on leisurely activities that require the use of physical or mental abilities such as playing sports or socializing. For the purpose of clarity, the term active leisure time will be referred to as recreation time in this paper as both terms encompasses similar meanings. From Sunday, January 6th to Saturday, January 12th, a large portion of my time was spent sleeping, attending classes or studying. On average, roughly eighteen hours per day were spent performing these activities this particular week. Leisure time occupied roughly twenty-two hours of the week with an average of three hours per day. This time map indicates that I am fortunate enough to have ample time for relaxation and leisure every day of the week. Similarly, time for recreational and physical activities occupied seventeen hours of the week with an average of two and a half hours per day. The Public Health Agency of Canada (2012) suggests that adults aged from eighteen to sixty-four years old should be performing moderate to intense activities at least two and a half hours per week to achieve health benefits. According to the time map, two and a half hours were spent every single day being moderately to rigorously active, indicating that I have a fairly active lifestyle.…
