Perseverance In The Book Night
In life when it comes to hard times, perseverance is key. Without perseverance, people in a bad situation lose sight of what is their goals and what is good for them. If goals are set and are not given up on, the greater chance of success. The books Night by Elie Wiesel and Sold by Patricia McCormick both relate to the topic on multiple accounts throughout the reading. Throughout the novels Perseverance is the key to survival, and a little dedication (perseverance) never hurt anybody.
There are multiple reasons why perseverance aided Elie to survive the tragedy he had to go through. Many times during my reading of Sold I witnessed a lot of examples of courage and tenacity, one being when Elie and all the rest of the Jews from the camp …show more content…
It is very simple to prove, because if Elie did not have the willpower or mindset to win, he would have given up like a lot of the POW in the reading. “ Give yourself a little color, don't walk, Run! Run as if the devil were after you! Don't look at the SS, run straight in front of you.” That quote was when Elie was trying to show the guards he was strong and could work. ( PAGE 78) Elie tried his hardest to not get chosen, and ran as fast as he could to impress the guards, because he had motivation to stay alive, and hopefully get out of the camp with his …show more content…
If Lakshmi did not have perseverance, then she would have given up like a lot of girls, and she would have gotten beaten for not trying, or not making enough money for Mumtaz. (PAGE 223) “Today I will show her my calculations, the figures i've checked and rechecked and checked again, the numbers that say I will have paid off my debt by this time next year.” Lakshmi is working just as hard doing her calculations on when she can get out as every night. Lakshmi is sure of it that if she keeps working as hard as she is now then she will get out of the “Happiness House” sooner or later.
This is why throughout both of the novels perseverance and having the willpower to succeed is more important towards survival than anything else that aids in survival. No matter if they can adapt or have a family to support them, if there is no determination involved, then no way anyone is getting out of that situation alive. There are still issues like this today, not to the same volume, but a lot of little situations that perseverance is involved

    Towards the middle of the book, Elie’s father is sent to a different block, and he and Elie have relied on each other up to that point. This isn’t the only time Elie has to rely on himself and be selfish at the death camp. Towards the end of the book, the prisoners at Auschwitz were forced to march many miles away from the camp. The person he was marching next to wasn’t able to keep walking, nonetheless was trampled by the other prisoners. Elie kept on marching because he realized he had to think of himself and rely on only him from then on: “I quickly forgot him. I began to think of myself again.”(Weisel 82).
