The "Judgment of Hunefer before Osiris" should stay in next year art history book due to that fact that the art work on the "Judgment of Hunefer before Osiris" incorporated relationship between art and literature but storytelling elements. The overall art work of The "Judgment of Hunefer before Osiris" is about Egyptian man Hunefer afterlife and the art took the viewers through the steps that he took to get through the afterlife , which is similar to today comic books or even like an instruction book. A sacramentary “was a liturgical book used for prayer during the High Middle Ages, containing prayers, prefaces and canons for mass” (“The Drogo Sacramentary”); this sacramentary was created between 845-855 CE for Drogo, the Bishop of Metz (“The Drogo Sacramentary”). This artwork is interesting to me because it illustrates the religious beliefs of French society in a beautiful and articulate manner. An artistic pattern found in illuminated manuscripts is a painted scene within an individual letter. For instance, in this illuminated manuscript a scene from the Lord’s ascension into heaven is painted inside the letter “C” (“Carolingian Art”, see Figure 1). It is amazing to consider how small the area is for the artist to paint; still the artist is able to illustrate a mountain, 12 disciples, two angels, and Jesus in a limited space. The artist uses colors of gold, red, yellow, green, blue, and black; these colors are simple, yet the combination of them is bold and grabs the viewer’s…

The painting has linear perspective and in the horizon there are hills and buildings. The size of the figures in the painting diminishes as they reach the background, also depicting perspective. The vanishing point of the painting appears to be just above the middle of the pictures, where a crucifix is shown. The painting is symmetrical. There are about seven people on the right side of the painting while on the left side there is only two men, one kneeling and one standing. The left side of the painting is balanced by the amount of buildings in the horizon.…

In Edward Smith Surgical Papyrus, written in 17 B.C., contains the earliest reference to the brain. The discriptions that the author gives, who was a surgeon for the battle field, allude to ancient Egyptians having a vague comprehension of the seriousness of head trauma. While the symptoms were well written with details, the absence of a medical precedent can well be seen. Observations of the brain by the ancient surgeons suggest only a relative understanding of the basic knowledge and the importance of cranial security. Furthermore, considering the general consensus of medical practice pertaining to human anatomy was based on the myths and superstition from the greek gods, the thoughts of the battlefield surgeon appear to be empirical concidering…

This engraving was done on copper; giving it a warm earthy tone. The absence of other colors gives the piece a dark feeling. Durer’s etching uses light very realistically, giving the figure of the horse especially a very convincing sheen. The absence of light behind the figures lends an abyssal element of danger connecting the literal dangers of Death and the Devil in the upper part of the work to the implied dangers in the lower part of the etching. With the abundance of hatching and cross hatching, lines appear from the texture of the objects and figures themselves, while other line work is direct and bold such as along the armor work of the knight. The eye is drawn to the left along the work at first by the implied motion of the knight and his dog. Other directional forces like the knight’s pike and sword as well as the trees in the background and the devils horn and spear draw the eye back across the space.…

In this painting, you see around 60 Greek philosophers arranged in a very large hall. The philosophers are talking to each other, discussing theories or mathematical queries. It symbolizes philosophic thinking and the search for truth. On the wall you can see paintings and statues. He has used contour lines with domes and actual line with figures. Personalities are arranged like actors in a tired architectural setting, Raphael has represented distinguished Greek philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle (the central figures) Socrates and Euclid. Composition has been ordered brilliantly, clearly revealing his outstanding ability. The placing of each figure and each group combine to produce perfect harmony, order and balance, and, even though some sixty figures are used in the composition, there is no crowding. Therefore painting is asymmetrical. The main focal point of the painting is on Plato and Aristotle. The painting has more emphasis on these two philosophers than the others because they are centered in the middle of the composition and they are the only two standing in front of hall entrance with sky surrounding them.…

In the Egyptian time period, art was used as a method of telling stories about previous rulers and providing religious information and guidelines to the citizens. The Last Judgment of Hunefer is a painting that had quite a large impact on the Egyptian people and their thoughts and actions in society, as well as a piece of art that when looked at, creates a lot of interest in discovering the meaning behind it. The large amount of curiosity in the eyes of the observer is due to the fact that this painting is telling a story about an unfamiliar or mysterious time period. People nowadays may not always know the meanings behind the symbols used and as a result, may be inspired to do some research on the painting in order to discover what the artist was initially attempting to get across to the viewer. Often depicted with a scribal reed and palette, or a papyrus roll, Thoth was also the patron deity of scribes (Wilkinson 2003: 215). He was a writer deity beyond just being a scribe, however. He was also credited with inventing writing – the means of retaining and transmitting knowledge to others, furthering his role as a messenger – “and the different languages of humanity”, (Pinch 2002: 209; Wilkinson 2003: 216). The Egyptians wrote in hieroglyphs, a writing they held sacred. Images and hieroglyphs were “[representations that] had the ability to function as the object that they presented” (Brewer and Teeter 1999: 121). For example, there was much power in the act of erasing one’s written name, as that was understood to be the same as erasing…

When I visited the Brooklyn Museum, I got to see many different works of art. While looking around on the 3rd floor, there was one specific piece that caught my attention, “King Senwosret III”. King Senwosret III was a 12th Dynasty King that ruled from c. 1836-1818 BCE. King Senwosret III was considered to be one of the most powerful rulers during the middle kingdom. This small, black granite sculpture that caught my eye is of him. It was created during the time of the middle kingdom. It is not known for sure, but this artwork is believed to be from Hierakonpolis, Egypt. During this time period, sculptures of kings depicted a more real look. The Middle Kingdom lasted from c. 1975-1640 BCE. Art was very important to the Egyptian culture. The sculpture of King Senwosret III has certain characteristics that make it obvious to see that it is an Egyptian work.…

The timeline of history is not a static one. As time progresses, most all aspects of life constantly advance. That being said, some things remain practically unchanged for several millennia. The ways of human nature are still as basic and at the same time incredibly complex today as they were thousands of years ago. A betrayal of a good friend hurts as much today as it did no matter what time period you look at. It is the reason good deeds have always been praised and bad deeds punished. The same may be applied to any facet of life. The pain felt when left in the absence of a loved one, the subject of the lyrical poetry found in the Papyrus Chester Beatty I. Expressed in these lyrics are emotions that readers today can relate with although being written in 1500 B.C. Egypt. The poem consists of seven stanzas, alternating between a man and women, expressing their feelings for the person they love.…

The original image of the statue appears that it was not painted, though it contrast between the ocean and the sky makes it seem like the picture might have been altered. The sky in the background matches the color of the linen. The image shows the statue dead center with the ocean filling two thirds of it and the sky filling the other third. In a majority of the rectangles there is a splotch of darker blue than what is used on the statue that covers the statue’s torch and torch, keeping one from seeing everything completely. Only two of the images include red paint, excluding the images on the far right that are cut off. The grid of the images creates six or seven implied lines. There is also an implied line from the bottom of the left side of the statue to the tip of the torch. There is a line created along the horizon of the dark ocean and the bland sky. There are contrasted lines within the ocean to show waves or motion…
