Owning a pet
Why do people own pets?

When you think about the concept of pets, it's kind of odd. I mean, you pick an animal that you like and you put it on a leash or a cage and drag it around with you. Weird, right? According to the Humane Society, about 83.3 million people in the United States alone own dogs, and about 95.6 million people own cats. With that many people owning them, there has to be a logical reasoning behind it.

One of the main reasons people get animals is because of the feeling you get by owning one. Animals can provide a sense of companionship that you may not get from human companions. Pets are like a constant source of love. No matter what the occasion, they’re happy to see you, and looking for attention. Often times dogs are used for security purposes. People who live alone, especially women, often purchase dogs to give them the sense of not being alone at home, and giving them a better sense of safety in their homes.

Animals are used to work for things as well. For example, hunting dogs are used by hunters to retrieve the birds that have been shot and bring them to the hunters. Cats are used to kill mice and other rodents that live in barns, houses, sheds, etc. Horses are used by ranch hands all over the world to ride and secure their crops or manage cattle. Dogs can be used by the disabled as well, the blind have service dogs that help them maneuver through life. Humans have figured out what pets can do for us, and they are using it to their advantage.

Studies have shown that people who own pets have better health and are sick less often. Being around animals, especially from a young age, help to build a healthier ammune system. You also have lower risk of having pet allergies. According to the Humane Society, pet owners over the age of 65 make 30% fewer visits to the doctor than those without pets. Also, pets are often times used as therapy. For example, dogs are used with troubled children, like kids who have been orphaned

The Human-Animal bond is essential to the well-being of society. Animals can affect people in many different ways, specifically by providing companionship. The main reason that the relationship has changed is the concept of owning pets, which is relatively new (Reinisch). The concept of pet ownership has changed the way people see animals because instead of thinking of animals as…

Dogs will not question your authority, and can, in time, be trained to do exactly as they are told. They are more playful and active than cats. There are many species of dogs, and they come in varying sizes. Smaller dogs such as poodles and terriers are for people who just need an extra friend. Larger dogs like german sheperds or laboradors can provide protection as well as companionship. Dogs require a lot of attention, and they will make sure their owners are aware of it.
