It was the end of summer with only a week left of summer vacation. I was with my cousin Karlee when she brought up cross country “I have cross at 5:30, can your mom drop me off then pick me up when it’s over” Karlee started
“Probably i’ll ask her” I replied
We were talking about it when she asked why I'm not gonna do it. I didn’t really know why other then I thought I couldn't.
“I don’t want to, I don't think I could do it.” I said
“You should it’s fun” Karlee replied Paige
We talked about it more and I thought about , all night and the rest of the week. Then sooner then I knew it, it was the night before the first day of school and I had to decide whether I was gonna go to

The next day I showed up, nervous really, really nervous. It was hard the next few weeks and I had my doubts, then it was time for the first meet. It was a saturday at Iowa Western, middle schoolers ran last so it was a long wait. Then when I got up there at the start line, the grass was cut short and the sun was bright, it was super quiet as he was getting ready to shoot the gun, I was never so nervous, I don't know why but I thought there’s no way I can do this it’s not gonna happen, but it did. I didn’t do that good but I finished and that’s all I cared about. As the season went on I had my doubts as of wether I could do it or not finish another meet go through another …show more content…
There were many times I wanted to quit or give up but I didn’t even though I really wanted to at points. I remember the last three meets, they were the best. They were in Shenandoah, Atlantic, then Clarinda. Shenandoah was my favorite course i'm not sure why maybe it was the trees and the paths we had to run of were fun, it was shady most of the places and filled with plants and trees on a dirt path. At Atlantic it was pouring rain all day and when it came time for the middle schoolers to run it was muddy and people were falling at the start, everyone got super muddy and wet. Then in Clarida it was the last meet and I was super nervous right when we got there I knew it was gonna be hard. When we walked part of the course there were corn fields and trees on the outside of it. When we got up to the start I was nervous I said I saw scared for the other ones well this one was 10 times worse but the gun went off and we ran and finished, then it was over. The season went fast, it was long but fast at the same time. It was fun scary, hard, but

It was just two weeks until school. And cross country practice started. The practices were hard at first but then the got a little bit easier. And time trials came. I was not looking forward to it, but when it came I was like “this is easy.” When school came, the cross country meets came, too. Boy are the meets fun! They were getting harder and harder at every meet and once I had to run two miles around a golf course. The abs workouts are hard still today, it helps me with other sports like soccer.…

In 2008, I was a eight year old and, regrettably, a member of the Saint Joseph Cross Country team. I consistently finished in the last five runners, and despised every moment that I spent training for the race season. Even though I began running cross country in elementary school, I was never a natural. After years, I was allowed to quit. By the time I was a freshman in high school, I had forgotten my hatred of running. After much enticement from my mother - a runner herself - I joined Bowling Green High School’s Cross Country team. Halfway through the first practice, I remembered every reason why I had quit the sport years earlier. Regardless of how much I begged my mom, she insisted that I finish the season. I was stuck with two choices:…

Gallons of sweat trickled down my face while I seamlessly ran up and down the track. At times, I didn’t think I would get through it. It was an everyday struggle to continue my journey down the path of success. At practice, we would relentlessly run and run and run until our breathing neared nonexistent. I, for one, could barely keep up, but the fight inside of me did not die out. My coach would tell us that our meet was nearing and our will to win kept pushing everyone harder. We ran three to four miles a day with little to no breaks. He would yell motivational phrases to push us, but in all honesty, we just wanted to get back in our beds and sleep the day off. Although this is true, It became important to me to work to better myself and though…

My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…

Later that night my mother told me that even if you don't succeed at first just give it time and practice and eventually you will thrive. The following year I went out for the team again and practiced each day, giving it my all remembering how to control my breathing and when to push through the pain. As the cross country season went on and improved my time, and running form, determined to succeed in the future. I have always been a believer in hard work, and I find the harder I work, the more determined I'm to succeed. My last three years of running I made the district team and became a medalist of central Massachusetts as well as a divisional medalist. Views on practice may differ but it does not make you better, it's the attitude and mentality you put into your practice that truly makes a runner flourish. In brief life throws all sorts of challenges in your way not just in sports but in everyday activities. However success is not final it's a water station to refuel your mind and continue on life's journey, failure is not the end, it's just a horrible race, but the will to practice on after an awful race is what…

The time in-between the moment we lined up to the time the gun went off, my palms were sweaty, my stomach was in knots, and my heart was beating at a million miles per hour. I was so nervous I felt like throwing up. Then, in a blink of an eye the gun went off and my mind went blank. It was like no one was around me even though there seemed to be a million people watching me run. However, I was running trying not to die. I could feel my legs beneath me more tired with each step. I could feel the ground push back at me with every step I took. During what seemed to be the longest two miles in my life, I remember coach Buse, my parents, high school runners, and other parents encouraging me during my first run. They said things like, “Keep going, you doing great!!!” and “Pump those arms, stride out!!” All the cheering was dancing around in my head, keeping me positive when I felt like dying. Then all of sudden, that was it, I finally reached the finish line, and I felt so proud of myself. I did it, I didn’t get last and I was surprised with myself. In that moment a huge weight got lifted of my shoulders, I felt relieved. That’s when I realized that running was as bad as I thought it was. I thought that maybe this would be my new favorite thing to do. I finished with the time of 16 minutes and 35 seconds. Which, as I see it, was a good time for being the first time I ran…

It was a scorching hot October day in Palatine, Illinois. As my team and I warmed up for our cross country race we could feel the sun fry us. The Palatine Meet of Champions is always a competitive meet and this was the last time I would toe the line there. I was nervous. Thoughts started rushing through my head and I tried to stay calm. As the day went on, it was time to go to the line and start the race. Right before the gun went off;, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I visualized success. The gun went off and I bolted for the bottleneck. As we came to the last mile, I was in great position. I started making my way to the front and I felt like I was flying. Although I did not win, I placed fifth against many nationally ranked runners. I felt like I was on top of the world. At that moment I knew I wanted to pursue the dream of running collegiately. Later that week, I received a call from Coach Chorny from Miami University telling me that he would like me to run as a RedHawk. I was hooked after my official visit and later that month, I signed my letter of intent. My journey was set to continue.…

i always heard that cross country happened a dangerous sport, and to me, that was the exciting part about it. As the summer went on, my confidence that I would reach my prime grew undoubtedly stronger every time i would look at at the improvements I did during the summer when getting ready for my first high school cross country season. I finished the summer session of the season and everything went as planned, capturing three amazing races that had me in the top 20 for those meets and I looked good to make regionals that year until one day during practice, all of that would lead downhill. Running after school on a sunny afternoon with the team and getting ready for the city meet, which all of the Brownsville schools would go plus other nearby valley schools, the sun flared its heat in our faces but the wind cooled off our sweat for a refreshing…

At the time I was pretty young, just finished the third grade at St. Henry School and I was feeling comfortable. But sometimes I will soon find out, is not always a good thing. At this time I was living in very green and warm Nashville, Tennessee. It was the beginning of August and it was almost time to head back to school. But at that point school sat in the very back of my mind as I was totally focused on trying to have the best time before summer ended. School hadn’t really been said between my mom which was kinda weird because normally we were on the…

An assessment has to be carried out to show that learning is taking place. The initial assessment will show me the learner’s knowledge, skills and capability in the hairdressing industry. The easiest and most effective way to show their understanding is by demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the criteria that has been given. This can then help me and the learners to see if they have fully understood, and if not is should encourage the learner to ask questions. Sometimes a learner will need guidance to understand what exactly they have to learn, and if they are on track and how they can improve their skills/ techniques. For this to be effective it means that a thorough assessment will need to take place.…
