Unit 4222-201 Introduction to communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings(SHC 21)

OUTCOME 1 Understand why communication is important in the work setting.

1.Identify different reasons why people communicate.

To express needs ,to share ideas and information ,to reassure,to express feelings,to build relationships.socialise to askquestions,to share experiences.

Communication is an essential tool a carer can use to meet the needs of individual.It is a basic requirement of my job role to communicate with individuals and their families,other members of staff on a daily basis.Communicating with other staff members ensures efective team working and continuity of care.It also ensures any health and safety issues and also complete communication books after attending an individual,thereby keeping .Other staff informed and aware of current situation within the workplace.

Individuals communicate with carers to express they needs and preferences and to ensure they are met.As a carer I would discuss to options and choices available to the individuals to allow them an informed choice regards their care.

2.Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work.

Within the care setting I communicate using:Communication books,Handover with colleagues,Staff message book ,staff meetings,meetings wit my line manager etc.

Effective communication is important as it ensures that information is :clear,concise,accurate,non- judgmental,and informative .This reduces the possibility of mistakes being made and ensuring appropriate care service delivery .It is important to work as a team with my colleagues,so that my all work to achieve the same outcomes and targets.

3.Explain why it is important to observe an individual's reactions when communication with them.

Communication is a 2 -way process.It is not simply about sending a message ,but also knowing about if the receiver has understood and processed the message properly.
