Nuclear Power Alternate Research
The dangers involved with nuclear power production weigh heavy on the environment as a whole. The population should start to develop newer ways to mass produce energy in a more environmentally safe way.

In early stages nuclear plants are extremely expensive. According to OECD the “overnight cost” (calculation of all costs present and future) for nuclear plants under their control is anywhere between $3850/kWe to $5339/kWe. These costs directly affect the US and every tax paying citizen because it's paid for through tax money. Matt Bivens of TheNation.Com talks about how in the event that a nuclear plant is involved in a catastrophic event and peoples homes are destroyed, insurance wont pay for the damages. Thats because of the Price Anderson act. This act restricts nuclear plants accountability and reliability to less than a fraction of damage costs. Again, that leaves the taxpayers to pick up the slack because the insurance companies because the nuclear companies are not liable.

Discovery’s Joanna Burgess makes a good point when she says that no energy is one hundred percent clean. Although like everything nuclear energy has its flaws, including the fact that there is no way that the waste can be disposed and the unsecured mentality of plants operation. The reaction that occurs in the plant happens between and atom splitting and combining with others, which in turn leaves waste. There’s no place for the waste to be disposed, it has to be stored. That leads to the opportunity for contamination for the population at large. With over 6 dozen operating plants in the post 9/11 US, there is always a back-burner concern. Experts say that with the events of 9/11 there has always been the thought of nuclear destruction due from terrorist involvement but operators almost neglect the matter.

    Over centuries humans have always continued to try and find new ways of converting one form of energy into one which humans can manipulate for their own use. One of the most recent forms of converting energy, which is gaining in popularity is nuclear energy. With 14 percent of the world using it today it is a viable alternative to burning fossil fuels. One of the bigger well know events of this nature, came from the power plant Chernobyl. To put simply it is a plant that exploded releasing nuclear waste into the atmosphere. Although this is detrimental to the environment the significance behind this event is because of this accident, we have now learned from our mistakes and are taking more precautions so that history is not repeated. I will prove that history will not be repeated through some background knowledge of the plant, what happened during the meltdown and how it effected the land and inhabitants, and finally what insight we have gained from this event and its significance to history.…

    Recently, a client of mine bought real estate near Donald C. Cook Nuclear Generating Station, which is in Bridgman Michigan. Although, the property is six miles north of the nuclear power plant, the buyer decided that it was not an issue and bought the place. The property sits in a beautiful wooded area overlooking Lake Michigan with a cozy ranch, mile long driveway, and old hardwood trees. One would never notice there is a nuclear power plant down the street when sitting by the pond skipping stones across a quiet serene boutique farm and vineyard. This property also sits in Cook 's emergency zone located on an evacuation map on their website. Taking a look at the brochure and website of Cook 's nuclear station, one would be amazed to see all the precautionary steps taken to protect the nuclear reactor that is enclosed in a 3 ½ ft thick concrete wall reinforced with three layers of steel rebar in a reactor house that is heavily guarded by security personal with guns www.cookinfo.com). The brochure even includes an explanation of the not so foreseeable disaster if a plane crashed into the reactor house and how there is “very few combustible material to fuel a fire” (www.cookinfo.com). Nonetheless, it is a nuclear power plant, but what are the pros and cons of using them to power the nation? Is there better energy sources out there like the sun or water?
