Nt1310 Unit 8.1 Summary
8. CONCLUSION
8.1 SUMMARY
The final device is an Arduino-based ball sorter that uses a two-stage approach to sorting the balls. The device starts by isolating a single ball and measuring its weight. Afterwards, the device categorizes the ball based on the measured weight and deposits it in the appropriate receptacle.
Through an iterative process, the preliminary design was refined into the final design based on multiple phases of testing and analysis. Several improvements in durability were implemented and saw the design progress from a cardboard-based to a wood-based design. There were also various improvements made to the sorting process itself, with sorting effectiveness and efficiency improving after each iteration. The final design met

The first lesson learnt is the importance of durability when constructing a device. Although the preliminary design was functioning, it’s lack of durability meant a completely new device was constructed for the secondary design. The emphasis placed on durability for subsequent iterations resulted in a device that remained structurally sound despite repeated transportations. The second lesson is the importance of effectively integrating separate systems into the final design. The parallel construction of the computer system and the mechanical system allowed the final design to operate as a single unit that was both accurate and efficient. Without this integration, the final design would likely have been unsuccessful.
8.2. RECOMMENDATIONS
Reducing the project cost is also possible in the future. The load sensor and load cell amplifier (Hx711 Amplifier) were purchased from Canada Robotix. Although there were cheaper suppliers, their products were unavailable within the project timeframe. Purchasing these parts from a different supplier at an earlier date in the project timeline will reduce future project costs.
Additionally, the performance of the device during final testing showed that to maximize sorting accuracy, pre-calibration is required whenever sorting a new set of balls. However, to ensure accuracy without pre-calibrating, an increased ball sample size is necessary to develop more precise weight ranges for

To setup the experiment we had to use three meter sticks and two standard tennis balls. We took all three of the meter sticks aligning them vertically up against the wall. Taping them into place we were then able to use them to measure the height of the dropping point. Using our eye sight we had to determine how far up the ball bounced up on the meter stick. We then proceeded to find three appropriate heights to drop then tennis ball at. Dropping it three times at each height and then averaging the data. On the soaked tennis ball we would soak the ball for two seconds before each drop. We also measured the weight of each ball before dropping them. After doing this 3 times each and receiving our averages we were able to create our data and see the relationship between the two.…

My week starts on Thursday after work. I get home do my daily routine and then start reviewing the week that I have ahead. I start of by going through the Leaning Guide for Unit 3, where it tells me all the tasks I have for the week and produces a checklist that I should complete by the end of the week. My first task was to peer review the writing assignment for Unit 2. Therefore, that was what I did first and this did not take long. I was surprised because most of the students did not get the answers correct, or they left it incomplete. When I saw the answers, I knew I had gotten three of them wrong and I was so furious because I was unsure of the answers that I produced at first, and I had changed them several times. One student got 2/7, and the other two got 3/7. This make me think that most of the students do not understand the material. I’m not saying I understand everything but I always try to attempt every question rather than leaving it incomplete.…

My lab results were similar to my hypothesis. My hypothesis was that the densest object would be the rubber stopper. In the lab results the densest object was the penny and the rubber stopper was second. My hypothesis was switched. My hypothesis was correct when I stated that the macaroni was the third densest object. My hypothesis was also correct for the dice, but the bead and the dice share the same density. So they are both the fourth densest item. I was wrong with my hypothesis when I placed the popsicle stick third to last when it is actually second to last. For the last results the wooden ball was the least dense and my hypothesis was correct. The rubber stopper had a 47% error. A possible error was that the object was not measured correctly both on the scale and in the graduated cylinder.…
