The "marker" is both...and. Says yep.
Everything is spiritual
Genesis is the poem of creation. Here we learn that everything god created is "good."
NOT Dualism (yin and yang, evil is as strong as good.)
Creation is both able to be touched and grasped- and EXTREMELY complex
God, creation, the universe etc can be many things at once and still be true: both...and
Matter matters
Creation is important. The earth is important.
The world is good! (God said so.)
Life is tangible.
BUT also elements of life that are very difficult to understand.
The world is BOTH physical AND spiritual.
Sacraments are BOTH physical AND spiritual.
7 Sacraments:
Baptism
Confirmation
Eucharist
Reconciliation
Anointing of the sick
Holy orders
Matrimony
What is a sacrament
An outward visible sign of an invisible grace.
Makes it present through matter and ritual.
Sacraments call our attention to and remind us of a reality of god that is always present, but se may not always realize.
God is ALWAYS: loving, forgiveness, inclusion, commitment, fidelity, service, energy, mission, etc.
2 ways to think about sacraments.
Sacraments are like wormholes (passage point between two places in space).
Those magic eye pictures. (Pictures that look like nothing but actually there is a picture here.)
Efficacious
A sacrament not only reminds us of grace, but itself is a channel of grace.
It brings about what it signifies.
All sacraments have form and matter
"Form"= the specific words, ritual, 'formula', used in sacraments.
Ex: "I baptise you in the name of the F, S, and HS.
"Matter" - the specific physical "ingredient" used-elements + gestures.
Ex: water
Form and matter differentiate a sacraments from another random action.
God is in another dimension. We are in flatland and when god brought jesus down he was the ring going into the flatland.
